Idea to improve matchmaking via MMR

Here's a free idea that Riot can plug into their new team building concept.

Problem: MMR in its current form doesn't always do a good job matching even teams at all levels.

Solution: Create sub MMR that ranks a player by role and specific champions. Aggregate these sub MMRs to get an idea of overall player skill.

Example: Take a look at me. I have ~1000 games in the jungle this season and a couple hundred games supporting. Very few games playing top/mid/adc. I would rate myself a plat/diamond jungler, a gold/plat support, and a wood level top/mid/adc. If riot had a way to rank me on these separate roles, then suddenly you have a true idea of my skills so that you don't rage and say "MMR broken, Riot PLS" when you're on my team and force me to adc for the first time in ranked.

You could do the same thing for champions. I have >500 ranked games with Sejuani this season. I am a diamond level sejuani player and know everything about that champion in every role. Contrast that to my Xin where I've played zero games. I'm going to be WAY better at Sej than I am with Xin, and the MMR system should be able to take that into account.

So in the new team builder matchmaking, if I say I want to Ez adc with my wood mmr, I should be matched accordingly, even if I'm a platinum solo queue player. Same deal if I'm trying Xin for the first time in the jungle (although my overall jungling mmr might raise me up from wood to silver or something). If I'm looking for a Sej game in the jungle, the system could match me with tougher opponents.

Now this is trickier for the current ranked system since Riot doesn't know ahead of time what role I'm going to be playing. If I get my jungle/support, I'm going to stomp on the enemy team. If I get stuck with Top/Mid/Adc, we might ff at 20. Riot can either combine all of my role MMRs and champion pool MMRs together to get an aggregate amount to match me on, or look to see where my focus is if I specialize and try to match me with more diverse specialties. That way, if I want to only play jungle, I'll get matched with Top/Mid/ADC/Sup players. This is nice because someone that can play every position well will get matched faster than someone that can only play one role well.

I can see a system like this working pretty easily. I only notice matchmaking problems when a player is forced into a role that they can't play (those games where all 5 player request "support pls" and no one knows how to carry). What do you think? Could something like this work?

They are adding a Team Builder game mode to test such a thing that you are requesting. You will be able to say say roles you like, or specific champions you want to play, and it will let you discuss with your team beforehand to iron our your strats.

At first, it is going to be tested thoroughly with normal games. I believe if it is generally accepted by the community, that they may(HUGE may, I dont think they will do this if even like 10% of the ranked community don't approve) actually either add it as a new ranked, or may even replace the current ranked with it.
