I need help learning how to Jungle

Currently I am trying how to Jungle, but I'm really bad at Jungling in general. I mainly play Amumu so keep that in mind. My problems:

  1. I have no sustain very early in the game and it takes a while for me to be able to survive in the jungle. Because of this...

  2. I get behind immediately. By the time my team mates are level 6 I am only level 4. Because of this...

  3. I can't gank. If I'm behind my "ganks" just feed the enemy and I end up being a liability to the team in the late game. Because of this...

  4. I'm afraid to gank. I end up just farming the jungle all game so I never make an impact on the game.

So help me get over these problems and learn to jungle. Please don't tell me to look up guides or videos because I have and they don't help.

Assuming this is your main account - jungling is very difficult before you hit level 20. For many junglers, runes and masteries are absolutely mandatory to be able to clear the jungle - until you at least have armor seals, I'd recommend sticking to junglers that naturally have high sustain. Udyr, Fiddlesticks, Nunu are all solid candidates, since their kits basically ensure that they're always at full health. I wouldn't personally recommend trying to jungle Amumu at level 15.

Generally you don't want to jungle before level 20, and before you get Tier 3 runes. Part of the problem for your sustain is that you don't have enough points for masteries and your runes are non-existent/not good. You won't do as much damage, either, because of runes/masteries. Getting behind probably has something to do with your clear speed being not too good (runes and masteries.) Your ganks should be for lanes you think you can at least burn summoners or get a kill (generally). Amumu (imo) does not have good ganks before level 6, when he gets his ult. After you hit 6, then you should gank, especially bot lane, because your ult will be of more use there.

Machete+4 pots is how you start. When the pots are gone, it's time to base. That'll help your early sustain. Then either go razor, spirit stone, or quill depending on who you are playing.

Remember you have to keep farming in order to keep your levels up. Don't even bother to gank (but countergank or counterpush if you see the other jungler).

As for being afraid to gank, get over it. You'll get better with practice. And summoners levels if you aren't 30.

  1. Before level 30, your best luck is to try playing jungle champions that have a heal passive or ability. (Try Udyr Spam q and w, or Xinzhao his w heals every 3 hits)

  2. You have to be consistent with your cs score. 40 Creep score more than an enemy can score you a whole 2 whole levels or more if you picked up a kill or two. (After leash, Try smiting monsters soon so smite is back up in the next 1 or 2 camps you fight)

  3. Gank when the Enemy is low health, or just when your team mate needs it. You don't always have to go in for the kill and turret dive to try and get it. Scaring off people from killing your team mate means they don't get fed. (immediately start farming after you're sure they've been scared off and your team mate is safe)

  4. Follow the instructions, You wont be afraid once you're ahead. You'll actually spend more time ganking lane to lane and back and looking for opportunities to gank. But still ALWAYS keep your cs score high. Clear waves when your team goes back, then straight to the jungle for more CS CS CSSS!!

Lastly, watch some videos. there's tons of good junglers with lots of sustain. and tons that have low sustain but are very good at ganking. Find what fits your playing style since you still have a while till 30. i recommend not buying many characters till then since you can just play the free ones. Once your 30 it's a whole new game. champions that were good, start to fall behind. Some that were bad become amazing. Sometimes its just lack of knowledge. You'll find out what certain passives can do to work with skills. Just practice and you'll get better. Communicate with your team and tell them not to back of if you're sure you can get the kill out of it.

Anyways Good luck.
