How to play League of Legends without being flamed and reported?

Fair warning, this is probably going to be more of a rant than anything else. I decided I'd just go mid because I hadn't done it in about a month - huge mistake.

I picked Heimerdinger because I had played that one in the past and like it. I developed my own kind of strategy where I would make a barricade of turrets - but the strategy is really dependent on me being in-lane near the beginning of the game because turrets take a long time to respawn, and I've essentially lost the lane if I leave for more than a second or two.

So near the beginning of the game I start my traditional strategy - I buy the beginner's items and sprint out to the center of the lane where I set a turret and wait for a new one to respawn. Meanwhile one of the players (I'll call him Steve because I don't remember his name) runs straight into an enemy ambush in the jungle and there's a huge teamfight. By this time, minions are just about to spawn, and I'll essentially lose that mini-turret, and therefore be at a HUGE disadvantage by leaving. I expect them to all dash out of the fight because they're so near their base. A 4v4 right out of the gate - neither side should be really winning it in the first place.

The fight subsides and everybody goes back to their lane. If I remember correctly, the exchange went something like this: Steve: Report Heimer Me: lol why? Steve: you didn't help us Me: you can't get reported for playing the meta Steve: lol yeah you can (at which point I chuckled a bit)

Throughout the game I kept getting ganked and chained in and killed, and every time he reminds everyone to report me. At which point I decide not to feed the troll and just ignore him for most of the game.

Later on, they just took a baron and I'm holding at the mid inhibitor turret and I start placing a turret barricade. I believe Steve died at that point, and he began just flaming me again with another player (I'll name Phil) with something to the effect of: Steve: We're all reporting Heimer right? Phil: he's worse than afking Steve: i know right

At this point I just mute both of them, because I died while I was distracted.

Needless to say, we lost. Post-game lobby shows up: Steve (before the lobby loaded): Report heimer Me (before I realized Steve posted): Report steve for doing nothing but flaming me the entire game Steve: lol I was just giving you advice Me: HOW THE **** DO YOU CALL THAT ADVICE?

Phil chimes in a bit and they won't let me get a word in. I couldn't even bring myself to listen to them for another few seconds so I left without reporting them.

So seriously - what am I supposed to do? Never try anything new? Just go back to playing co-op vs. AI? Find 4 non-douchebags and form a team that we play with all the time?

Just not care and report them. Seriously. Lol Mute report done. Just casually tell the enemy team what happened then leave.

First and foremost, never respond to people like that. Mute them if you feel you cant ignore it and play on as best you can. Report them at the end.

Anything more than this you are most likely making the situation worse and are going to risk getting punished yourself.

You didn't mute him fast enough. People like that are toxic and are going to continue to be toxic until enough people report him, and riot bans his account. Maybe then he will move on to another game like DOTA and be toxic there instead.

Forget any reason they may report you, riot can tell if you're "intentionally feeding" or just bad. If they really did report you, the worst they can truthfully do is report for unskilled player (which I believe just means your MMR goes down and you play against easier players in coming matches)

As soon as I see a toxic player, I'll pretty much immediately say in chat, "Xin Zhao toxic. Muted and reported." and then mute him. Then the rest of the game is fine.

Don't ever try a new champ in ranked, but in normals, who gives a %&$# how bad you play? Normals is for fun.
