This was honestly one of my favorite games to play. I've put alot of money into skins, alot of time into levelling, recently got into ranked and got into silver in my first season playing, was looking forward to the climb! Then I get into a game, i'm already feeling bad because we have no jungler... Anyways, halfway through the game I get a phone call no one likes to get. It's my sister telling me my favorite grandma passed away a little bit before she called me. Devastated, I decided I was going to finish the game out cause I felt like I owed my team that much. Lo and behold, even though i'm not even in a negative kda, the team starts telling to report me for being afk (approximately 2 minutes in base) and starts verbally abusing me like no other. I explain to them that i'm currently not doing so good in real life, but i'm going to finish the game out. "then stop feeding". Great advice coming from the 5-12 midlane Lucian, so I remind him that i'm not feeding, and that he should try to stop dying, and play it safe, maybe stay in the back since he's pretty much an adc and we can try to peel for him. Apparently since he had as many kills as me, but 4x as many deaths, that made it acceptable to talk to me like that. Then garen chimes in, telling the whole other enemy team to report me for trolling, and being AFK (despite finishing out a 40~ minute game after taking a quick phone call for 2~ minutes). They verbally abused me literally the whole game, even after trying to explain what happened. I'm probably going to get a ban for what the other player said to me in the post game lobby about how it doesn't matter, don't start a game if you're going to have to afk (lol). Obviously I got really angry, and let him know how I felt. So when I get my ban for the first toxic thing i've ever done in this game (I try to be as nice of a person as I can, cause I know I have shitty days and bad games too, more often than i'd like to admit on the second part), i'm pretty sure i'm done with this game. It's so sad that a community can literally be this pathetic, i'm used to getting bm'd constantly, having people fight their whole team in chat all game, but being that insensitive and uncaring even when I offered to show him the facebook post my cousin just put up about her death and telling me he doesn't give a shit, that I shouldn't have afk'd for 2 minutes. That's it. I've played SWG, WoW, HoTS, DOTA 2, CS:GO, and lots of other online games, and I can honestly say i've never been treated as badly as I was in this game. I have a question though, honestly, does rito even do anything about these people?

TL:DR Worst community i've ever had the dishonor of playing with. Ever. Worse than when I got bullied in high school for being a nerdy kid. Yeah, it's that bad.

Please, just mute them ASAP. I'm sorry you were getting harassed right after getting bad news, but you hold all the power in stopping it. You need to use it. You can report them after the match.

Ever heard of the mute button?

Well, that certainly is a pretty messed up story. Personally, I just disarm any potential argument by giving one or two vague, general responses, only when needed, and don't respond to anything after, leaving my focus on the match at hand. Any details, personal or otherwise, would only be fodder to garbage such as what you've received.

Whether it's easy or not to ignore people such as the way I described depends on each individual person, but trends I've noticed are that the most ragers/trolls/etc. are people that really don't play well and/or wind up getting kills moreso from killsteals or when they just so happen to get the last hit when others did the real damage (and then use their KDR for more trolling). Also keep in mind that, for the vast most part, no matter how big the stupid chat fights that go on, no one will really remember them within a couple or hours or so, and certainly not the next day, because they are usually trivial. In this case, I can see how it may be a bit more memorable for you personally, however, and I'm sorry you had to go through that. My point here is just that it's not worth talking to people who make rationality and logic feel like a myth.

In the end, no matter who's wrong or who's right in arguments in LoL chat, it's our individual responsibility to ourselves to remind ourselves: "It's just a game." Now I know games can mean quite a lot to individuals depending on the cards life dealt them, but unless you're headstrong on making it to the LCS, it's just a game at the end of the night. You'll come across many horrible people of all kinds in LoL, but you only have to deal with it (or ignore/mute them) for a short time while they have to live themselves for as long as they live. It's gotta suck to be a person that has to rage every single match and find it near-impossible to actually enjoy it.

As for my last point, as I'm trying to keep things short, there are good people in the game, too. Most of them are actually quite silent for the most part from what I've seen; perhaps that's due to even a friendly opening statement causing a toxic player to become a Chatty Cathy and comment on every single thing, only to wind up criticizing everyone when they die, etc. etc...well, you already know how it goes. But to make my point, you play the game because YOU like it. And YOU yourself are the person you are going to play with each and every game. Yes, it's highly unfortunate, to say the least, that you will be playing with/against people that can waste the elapsed time of a match, but that's the risk we run with a large MMO type game.

To sum it up, you can't change others. You only have true power over yourself. Don't surrender it, and do what it takes to deflect problems like these before they can even become problems. Heck, since it's over a game, it's only a real problem if you let it become one, so practicing disdain toward trolls and such is very possible and can be very easy. Even for one that fears criticism can find it easier and easier to press a simple mute button every game, making it a habit.

The worst thing we can do is let players' toxicity change ourselves and cause us to become like them, even for a short time, further spreading their poison in the veins of the community. Because, who knows...maybe that once-only snap could be the last straw that leads someone else to have a similar story as this post.

I'm sorry for what you went through that match, and I'm sorry for your loss. May your grandmother rest in peace.

i'm sorry for your loss.

and @ very toxic jinx how was he encouraging anyone being toxic? he was defending himself..... also the mute button does not work well... you wont be able to communicate and it is reportable.... because there is a report that states ''refusing to communicate'' its a total contradiction there O.o

there are too many brainless pigs in this community that are being so toxic its beyond ridiculousness... and you can't do anything because they filter dodge -.- im not just talking about na im talking about all servers..... yep even on euw they are this horrible :( eune oce etc

I said no

But then again i have 0 faith in people to start with. Humanity is a bizarre concept and odds are you have never real looked at it.

You will get father in life understanding that most people look out for themselves. On a daily bases people are looking to do their thing and move on.; they are not interested in helping others. Which is why girls are were taught to yell fire not rape.

Most of those that look to help others are doing it to feel better about themselves. They did something.

Only a very small minority of people help strangers cause they feel the need to.
