Let's explore the lore, not murder it

We received great amounts of content over past two years (new champions, VU's. new game modes etc.), but I find the amount of lore we are getting recently is kinda lacking. There are no JoJ or Champion Judgments anymore, even character bios now are mostly created not to tell us the origins of a champion, but to set up his "theme". And now we have an infamous Dev Blog, telling us that the lore we loved all those years is no more. Personally, I think it's a very rush decision, and it should be reconsidered, but if you going to throw the current story out the window, you might as well do it gracefully. A lot of questions regarding League's lore were unanswered. What happened to Reginald Ashram, what really happened during the events in Kalamanda, where did Genereal Du Couteau go, why does Brand consider the League dangerous? Those are just some of the questions we want to be answered, and the best way to answer those questions is through storytelling. There are countless ways a good story can be told, but I think that the best way is to do what Blizzard did several years ago with StarCraft and WoW. Here are some of the examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-D--GWwca0g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1kXyUJIqKY (sorry, couldn’t find the English version)

Short clips of narrative supported by relatively simple yet beautiful animation. What would be the themes of those shorts? Well, that's up to Riot to decide, but I were the one to decide I would chose those three themes (for starters):

  • Short #1 - The last Rune War, establishment of the Institute of War and the disappearance of Reginald Ashram.
  • Short #2 - The Noxus' invasion of Ionia and the two historic matches between those two city-states.
  • Short #3- The disappearance of General Du Couteau, events in Kalamanda, Swain becoming the leader of Noxus and the scandal involving High Councilor Heywan Relivash The world of Runeterra is vast and rich of stories to be told, and as I said before a lot of questions were left unanswered, so the series shouldn’t stop after just those three videos. I’m sure many of us would love to hear the story about three sisters of Freljord or Rune Wars of the past. Hell, I would give a kidney to hear the story behind the Shadow Isles. What stories would you want to hear from Riot and do you like the idea of those short videos? Please, let me know in the comments below.

P.S. To Riot Those clips can achieve a lot. First, you will give a huge present to your loyal fans, who played the game for a long time. Second, you will familiarize the players, who joined the League recently with the beautiful and exciting lore you created. I am sure they will enjoy the rich lore through those shorts as much as we did through various articles (JoJ, Judgments etc.). Finally, the videos will serve as great commercials for your product. Personally, the game's lore is the main reason I continue playing the game for so many years.

That seems to sum up the current problem pretty well. There has been no real lore additions for years, and suddenly an announcement that they are destroying all the lore that used to be as well.

Yes, there are lots of stories and unanswered questions in the lore many of us have wondered about. They simply haven't been telling them, and in the same breath say the stories they want to tell they can't without destroying the old lore.
