The Problem With Aggressive Policys

The biggest problem with aggressive policys in video games is quite simple. When you start trying to force people to act a certain way then you are basically taking away their rights. Now according to the law we are allowed to say anything we want short of being deflamatory or threatening someone or inciting violence. Honestly trying to play referee with millions of people and trying to put in the tech to punish those that do not behave is well problematic.

If you put in the tech to detect when people are swearing at eachother or w/e. Your wasting money because you will always have trolls period. If you use a report system then your opening up your justice system to trolls. once again

Look my point is Riot games should not be in the buissness of protecting peoples feelings. Nor should we expect them to protect us. The whole idea of socialising is taking the risk of dealing with assholes. its up to the people to know how to deal with them Not Riot.

Not even blizzard entertainment tries to play referee with its players. because they understand playing competitive games has ALWAYS caused tempers to flare ALWAYS, look at professional sports, chess even.. and even pokemon tournaments.

You are litterally asking to change the human condition. thats impossible unless you want to pay for the gene research. Just saying

No video game company on the planet tries to play the PC police as much as riot and because of this I have awarded Riot Games

THE FASCIST AWARD. Congratsulations for stiffling everyones freedoms and rights daily for the past 5 years. be proud .

"I'm a jerk and have every right to be! If I want to use my free time to ruin the game for others until they quit the game then that's my choice!"

Yeah, no. You agreed to follow certain guidelines in order to keep the game fun for people. If you refuse to follow an agreement that you made, then you aren't wanted by this gaming community, nor likely by any other. You claim "not even Blizzard does this" is a flat out lie. All online games you play where you can socialize with others make you agree not to act a certain way, and that the company holds the right to get rid of you at any time for failing to comply.

You have no right to say w/e you want. This is a privately owned place. They can ban all words that don't start with Q if they wanted.

Companies do this because its an expensive long term goal. Not only is it expensive to create and maintain w/e system you use to enforce the rules but also you have to be willing to turn away paying customers.

Like you said, most companies don't do this so if you can't behave with riots rules then you have plenty of other places do go where you are free to be an asshole.

This isn't necessarily true. While you are allowed to say more-or-less anything you want in a public (defined as "not privately owned") setting, that does not mean that when you are in a private setting, you are free from censure based on the needs or desires of the owner of that space.

While these forums and in-game chat are not physical spaces, the same rules that allow stores to ban people for disruption have been upheld - so far - with regard to digital spaces.

I have always hated this argument, because it's an argument for laziness. Let me apply the formula elsewhere:

"People will always be violent, so putting money into stopping/preventing violent crime is a waste of money." "People will always hate each other, so putting time and effort into encouraging inclusiveness is a waste of time." "I'm just going to mess my bed up again tonight, so making it this morning is a waste of time." "I'm just going to get dirty again, so taking showers is a waste of time."

As a secondary note, swearing is not punishable in-and-of itself. I can say "fuck" all day in-game (and often do), and never get so much as a restriction.

Look my point is Riot games should not be in the buissness of protecting peoples feelings. Nor should we expect them to protect us. The whole idea of socialising is taking the risk of dealing with assholes. its up to the people to know how to deal with them Not Riot.

Everyone deals with assholes. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't have some societal rules against them. Because not everyone wants to deal with an "all assholes, all the time" kind of culture. I'd say it's pretty likely that most people don't.

because they understand playing competitive games has ALWAYS caused tempers to flare ALWAYS, look at professional sports, chess even.. and even pokemon tournaments.

I disapprove of this argument as well. Primarily because it's expected for players to be occasionally frustrated or angry. Nobody's bothered by someone getting angry - it's how they handle that anger that causes problems. Behaviors, not emotions.

The fuck is deflamatory? Oh that's right.. a non-existent word. You were probably looking for defamatory, or derogatory.

If you put in the tech to detect when people are swearing at eachother or w/e. Your wasting money because you will always have trolls You are litterally asking to change the human condition. thats impossible unless you want to pay for the gene research.

*You're. Literally. That's.

Stop wasting your time on this game and go take a few English classes.

Congratsulations for stiffling

*Congratulations. Stifling.

You're right, competitive gaming DOES cause temper tantrums, anger issues and flaming. This occurs most often in individuals who lack the maturity to understand that THIS IS A FUCKING GAME. Yes, it occurs at the professional levels as well.

No video game company on the planet tries to play the PC police as much as riot and because of this I have awarded Riot Games

Most other games have the option to add the individual to a mute/ignore list, and NEVER be grouped or teamed with that individual again.

You must be one of those who continuously receives a suspension for being an obscene, toxic, immature troll. Otherwise, you wouldn't be complaining about a company trying to BETTER the community by removing these assholes.

The whole idea of socialising is taking the risk of dealing with assholes. its up to the people to know how to deal with them Not Riot.

Yep. That's life. However, they are trying to increase the FUN to be had while playing and *socializing, while not having to mute and ignore your team during critical moments.

Now according to the law we are allowed to say anything we want

EULA Section V, Article E states that "Transmitting or communicating any content which, in the sole and exclusive discretion of Riot Games, is deemed offensive, including, but not limited to, language that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, sexually explicit, or racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable;" violates the user agreement that you accepted when you decided to play this game.

TL;DR: Go play elsewhere if you don't like their attempts to monitor the community and make it more enjoyable for the masses.
