What franchises do you think would make great MOBAs?

I saw this article on IGN talking about 7 franchises they thought would make great mobas. Their list included: Star Wars, Mass Effect, Marvel, Lego, Halo, Mortal Kombat and Pokemon.

I think Mario is a great series as it has a lot of characters to the universe. I love the Castlevania series of games and think the creatures from it would be cool in a moba.

If Riot were to pick up a movie or game franchise what would you like to see them make into a moba? Discuss.

Any fighting game. Why?

  • Usually large cast spanning many games.
  • Iconic and recognizable moves for every character.
  • Already fall into heavy/medium/light character classes.
  • Easy to translate from 1v1/2v2/etc. fighting to massive 5v5 or more arena-style combat.

Pokemon.

Evolving as you level up. Itemization choices in evolutionary stones for Pokemon with divergent lines like Eevee and Oddish.

You even have some archetypes laid out. Steel and Rock would be tanky characters, Fighting would be bruiser types, Grass would be control supports with moves like Stun Spore and Sleep Powder, etc etc.

I'm gonna go on a limb here and try to stray from the standard LoL/DotA MOBA, to try and imagine how they could bring a new different experience that still fits a fantasy and expands the brand without travestying it.

#Splinter Cell First-person shooter. there are a couple classes to choose from, each class having 1 "close range" weapon, 1 "long range" weapon, and 1 "special" weapon. Each class also comes with a subset of skills (I would be enclined to go DotA like and vary the number of skills per person while having most be the same). An example could be a counter-recon, which has metal wires, combat sniper and an EMP gun. Skills would probably be somethign like a "radar jammer" and stealth detection.

Games would probably have more tactical combats, with 2-3 lanes that are made of corridors and stuff like that, your "creeps" would be NPC soldiers. All "recruits" (aka champions) would be fairly squishy, focusing more on stealth plays and tactical maneuvers than bashing through the front door. You would probably have access to different cameras and/or radars instead (or to complement) your minimap.

#Pokemon Once again, this would not be the standard moba. I would expect to see capture and evolution be core aspects of the gameplay, so you would most probabl be able to have 2-3 pokemon slots, and as you gain XP, all 3 pokemons gain XP. You have a starter among 5-10, and various pokemons (changes each games) are located symetrically on the map.

Your pokemons evolve after X levels, and you can release pokemons to catch stronger/different ones. You would only be able to change pokemon while at the city (aka fountain). While having some effect, type advantages wouldn't be as dominant.

#Beyblade

This one could actually be fuckign awesome... Ram agtainst structures to gain access to the enemy base, every times you collide, you lose some velocity (and/or rotation speed). You have to do something to gain it back. It could seriously be the singlest best coffee break MOBA. I would aim for an average of 10 minutes per game, most would last 8-15, with long games being roughly 20 minutes.

Man, Pokemon would be a blast.

I'd love an Okami one. It wouldn't have a huge roster of heroes -- even if you use all the enemies, it would probably clock in under 75 -- but the art is so beautiful and the characters and villains are so unique.

A Nintendo one in general would be neat. Think SSB goes MOBA.

A Harry Potter MOBA would be interesting, I think.

I'd like to see marvel super heroes.

There's a DC one but...honestly DC doesn't have that many interesting heroes outside of the Batman franchise.

Iron Man, Captain America, Venom, Green Goblin, Magneto, Deadpool, they'd all make freaking awesome MOBA characters. There's obviously be some one trick ponies who 'd be less cool like Cyclops, who'd just basically have variants of Ima Firin Mah Lazer, but even like Wolverine would make a cool melee carry.

It's got mobile champs (spiderman) it's got stealthy assassins (Black Widow) it's got ranged DPS (Iron Man), it's got Tanks (Captain America), it's got Bruisers (Hulk), it's got mages (Magneto)... And don't even get started on the amount of character interaction available.

I'd be amazed with the huge success marvel is seeing at the box office if this wasn't already in the works.
