Spectate Mode for Higher Elo

I used to enjoy logging in and being able to see some higher elo players on the front page that I could spectate. It was also a goal of mine to perhaps one day appear on the log in screen under a game that could be spectated. I was wondering why it was removed and if it is possible to bring back? Pref ranked soloq 5v5 games. I don't care much for arams unless people want variety. What do other people think and Riot?
