People that do this drive me nuts. I go into team builder, the 
says "Oh, I'm support", then starts 
and never builds 
. Why? Why do people do that? If you want to go full ap go mid lane. And then they start taking your cs, I end up warding more than they do, and they still end up useless late game. Is there a reason? Did somebody in the lcs go full ap support and win the game? Did trick switch to a support main and do this? Why? Tell me why?
I'll tell you what it is, because it sounds like what I would do when I first began playing. I love supporting, so when I started, especially on folks like 
and , I'd be like, OH! More AP will make my shield/heals stronger! The support was probably just newer and not used to playing Normals. They didn't understand that the supp has ways of support the whole team in the form of Auras and Wards.
On a different note, be nice to your supps... We're literally only trying to help. That is all. :D

Back when I still played, I used to go almost full damage(other than my sightstone of course) on my Zyra and Karma support... that was fun. There are places where full AP makes sense when supporting.
I play Sona support and when I go full AP I can heal for 300, damage for 500, ult for 500, and give +65% movement speed which is way more useful then 15% movement speed and 150 damage just so you can have a few more wards
Don really see what the big deal is. Granted I think it's wrong for a support to not buy sightstone, but I would assume if they are warding just as everyone else on the team should be I don't see it being too bad for it! As a support main I'll buy some damage usually a lich bane or something helpful. Especially with poke heavy champs it can really turn a game! I've gotten kills but more importantly my adc kills because of the damage I do!

Full AP supp is not wrong per se, so long as they still do what a support does -> wards scans vision control, and keeping you alive.
it's the ap supports that play like they are the carry that piss people off I think :p
At the points, it's not the build that matters, I mean if the janna is going full ap, but she pulls nice play and doesn't get picked why not?

I still stun the hell out of the enemy, we are usually able to go HAM at level 2 and get at least one kill which more than makes up for my loss of gold from not buying a support item, and I am much more dangerous to the enemy ADC in terms of denying him CS.

There's no reasno to AVOID sightstone as a support - even if you ARE going heavy ap. I think that's really what we can sum this up as.
Soraka can't heal others or herself with her Q worth crap if she doesn't build glass cannon.
