Will I be hurt if I get placed at the end of the season?
I began playing not too long ago, and the end of the season is coming up. My friend wants me to play ranked , "just to see where I get placed." Is this a bad idea?

Your ranked games now will affect your placement next season, but it honestly won't significantly affect any kind of placement you get next season. Just go for it.
Only if you lose more than you win in placements. Either way it should barely have any effect next season. Odds are you'll be reset to bronze regardless of how you place. And odds are you'll place bronze this season too. Silver would be hard (you'd need to win 9 or 10 of the placements).
worst case you get bronze and nothing then maybe you get silver and get a shiny border You may be good enough to get gold and a free skin
