Why does Jax's counterstrike have him swing his lamp around?

Is he repelling enemy autos with his staff? Then shouldn't it be called Block, rather than dodge? Because I get confused when it says dodge, when he's not evading any attacks.

Or maybe he's moving so fast I can't even see it :o
