What counter play is there to the herald
last i looked it was just drop it an watch everything die :\

Stun them when they are in the middle of summoning it. Since it is a channel spell you can interrupt it with hard crowd control.
Summoning the herald forces the other team to group up and stop it, or lose their base...

usually it just secures you a single tower and then can get focused and dies.
but you have to kill the Herald for that.
in the same time you could also have teamed up and get a tower yourself down.
but, if you want real counterplay, you can Ult the Turret as 
in the moment it charges and it won't do any damage.
Use Tahm Kench and eat the Herald.
It dies so quickly...
