Poll: How many of you play with locked screens?

I recently found out my friend has played with a locked screen for 3 years and I must say I was aghast. I Immediately started teaching him to play unlocked since it offers so much more information and allows you to position and see what's happening around you better, suffice to say he went from a mediocre adc to above average since he can see people ganking, and aim skill shots so much better.

Now back to the title, how many of you play with a locked screen?

I play with a locked screen 70% of the time. I'll unlock the screen to look around when things are going down elsewhere, but I can see just fine thanks to the mini-map and positioning the camera isn't an additional task I want to add to my load in a crisis. I simply don't see the benefits it offers when I can move the camera freely via the mini-map even when it's locked to my player. I also find no benefit in learning to play the game a completely different way when I'm never going to be good enough to matter anyway.

How can you even play with locked screen ? For real, have you ever reached Gold with it? Is it even possible ? At first I though this thread is a joke. No wonder there are so many scrubs who spent years of playing this game and still couldn't get out of low leagues. I guess people aren't always retarded, probably they just playing with locked screen.

You limit your awareness and focus by playing on a locked screen. I use to play on a locked screen when I first began to play (for maybe a month).

It always felt odd to me, since I come from playing RTS games and look around the map a lot. Then I was told by friends in real life, all who are much better than me at this game (they are platinum mostly with one diamond) to stop playing locked.

I toggled it off and immediately noticed improvement in my game. I was still only a silver caliber player when learning and only recently improved as a player over this past season.

I just have a lot more awareness on enemies, how my teammates are doing, and tunnel vision way less.

Locked screen limits your development as a player in order to focus on your personal mechanics. I think it really inhibits your play and while you can probably get to Gold playing with a locked screen, I think you won't climb much higher.

i play locked unlocking only when im ganking and very briefly it saves a lot of concentration

Sandrahy12/1/2016, 7:23:29 PM1 votes

like there are advantages and disadvantages on both.

Locked screen: you wont lose track of yourself during teamfights etc Unlocked screen: more camera mobility and awareness.

I personally would recommend playing on unlocked screen, but that's just my opinion, playing locked while walking around is fine though.

I play with my screen locked like 80% of the time.

If I need to look around or aim a really long skillshot that goes off my screen, I'll unlock and do that, but then lock right afterwards. I already have enough things to do and keep track of in this game, so I don't want to constantly be flicking my mouse all over to move my screen, or hold space to make it follow me.

I also play with normal cast on every champ, which people also find absurd for some reason. xD

I play with locked but i always move it around with the minimap, a few things that trigger me is the Y button bug that sometimes ignore the press and can be fixed either by pressing several times the button near the minimap (which is bugged too) or alt tabbing in and out the game, xerath's ult, jhin's W, cait ult, nocturne ult, and something else i might be missing. To aim out of screen abilities i just drag the minimap around and use the click as a crosshair.

Believe it or not, i have the same reaction you had when i hear the opposite, i would be so uncomfortable with playing with an unlocked camera i would tilt beyond redemption.

i mostly play with a locked screen, but thats only like 60% of the time, and mainly dirring laning phase. i have toggle on my spacebar and always take it off if im about to use a skillshot

champions I play: Azir Evelynn Fiora Irelia Jinx Leona Ryze Sejuani Talon Taliyah Soraka Sona Skarner Thresh Varus Vayne Xerath Yorick MasterYi Ashe If i played locked screen, most of them would be useless

I tend to play while pressing the space bar. But I play tanks, not artillery.

I came from Smite, so naturally I used the locked camera at the beginning, and I still do, but if I'm playing someone with a long range ability (Lux, Bard) or I need to aim a Redemption shot from far away I will unlock the screen.

Guilty. Locked screen for me.

It's just so disorientating for me to aim a skillshot and suddenly my camera moves and I miss. Or trying to CS or moving the camera just right for me to see everything I want to. >_<

I never really understood why people play locked screen because unlocked gives you so much more information and you can always center your screen on your champion with space bar.

Borbland12/1/2016, 10:20:06 PM1 votes

Locked screen is good for begginers, but you need to unlock it after a time for more map awarness, and also better space optimization. At botlane, you can push the screen to the right (as blue team) and have a better view of everything while locked camera doesnt give you that kind of freedom.

Unlocked while laning, roaming, chasing, and securing objectives. Locked during compact skirmishes and teamfights. I used to play strictly unlocked, but have found that locking improves my positional awareness in fights.

I didn't vote, because I toggle as the situation demands.

I have my screen locked, but I have the lock control bound to spacebar and frequently pan my camera around for info.

Keep it locked when fighting though.

When I first started playing i didn't have a mouse - used the trac pad instead X) so yeah I learned to play on locked screen and have been that way ever since. I've just started getting used to unlocking in certain scenarios but probably will never play fully unlocked.

KitsuneKrash12/2/2016, 1:01:34 AM1 votes

I usually play using Semi-locked & unlock when I gank a lane to better see if the enemy laner reacts so I know if they warded river.

Slythion12/1/2016, 7:06:23 PM1 votes

I play locked almost all the time, but I've always wished I had learned playing League with an unlocked screen. I'm practicing putting Flash on F and unlocked screen on my new smurf right now actually, it feels so weird

DrCyanide12/1/2016, 7:18:00 PM1 votes

I unlocked the camera almost as soon as I started playing. Then again, I came from Starcraft being my game of choice (mostly the custom MOBA's or "Impossible Scenarios"), so the idea of playing a game from this perspective with a locked camera didn't make sense to me.
