so im standing next to a barrel jayce runs up i Q he auto attacks the same berral at the same time and some how his auto attack was faster and registered faster then my Q does that dosent make sense to me

if you Q the barrel at the sametime as 
auto's ofc hes gonna hit it first GP's always had a cast time on his q, you're meant to either time it perfectly so your parley hits the barrel just as it ticks down to 1 hp or chain a barrel thats in a bush/nearby you. Just practice the barrel timing a bit and you'll be fine
