Alright here we go:
Just wanted to stop into the boards to talk about this for a minute. Currently, as a player base, we have no real way to deal with trolls in both a. Champion Select and b. In game. I know we can report them after but having to go through an entire game, then losing LP for something out of your control is really frustrating. This also is essentially wasting the next game as well if you win since you are just gonna get back to the lp where you were (I know that statement is flawed but you see the issue here).
Now, this said, I understand not having an in game report system/in game ok-to-leave system against trolls due to people reporting players that are just having a bad game but it is still incredibly frustrating. At least, I would like a system that allows us to not lose LP for having an afk. It is ridiculous to force players to play through a 4v5, lose even if they are playing well, and then make them lose LP for that. If someone is afk for more than 5-10 minutes, there is NO REASON that game should not be voided for both teams. It should be a loss forgiven system. I understand the argument of "well then people will just leave to save LP" but it is absurd to punish all 4 players in the scenarios where they genuinely were just caught in a 4v5, even if it may be taken advantage of.
My personal solution? Add more intense punishment to RANKED (specifically ranked) afk's. Having bad internet sucks. I used to have bad internet, it sucks, a lot. This is why the current punishment for normals is fine for normals. We want everyone to be able to play so keeping slight punishment for normals is fine. We don't want to drive away the poor crappy internet players, bless them. BUT ranked is not the place for those players. You have to take the game seriously to play ranked. You can't just do it for the trolls, knowing you might afk and make your whole team lose a games worth of LP. Its just not fair to them.
So, first, I like just having a warning and maybe a small punishment (doubled LP loss and a short time ban, think an hour or so) for first time/rare offenders. You screwed your team, so don't do it again, but we understand this isn't a usual occurrence. Relatively unchanged, except the lp loss, because we want a decent incentive here. Also, you will automatically fail promotions from this. Then second time offenders/offenders who have done it twice within a short period of time (week or month maybe) get a ranked ban for 5 days and get dropped an entire division in ranked. You can still play league. But just not ranked, and you are going to be punished appropriately, two teams have lost lp because of you. 3rd time offense gets a 5 day ban and a 15 day ranked ban and also loses a division of lp (keep in mind these should not drop you tiers only divisions if youre in the 5th division, you should just be placed at 0 lp) AND additionally you lose mmr for this one. Your match making rating is dropped because, if you aren't going to play full games, you shouldn't be able to advance. Then, after that the longer account bans start coming with lp and mmr punishments.
Finally, the most important solution, give the players on the team some additional tools. Add champ select report systems. Make it so if 4 players vote yes (ALL FOUR PEOPLE MUST VOTE), the person will be kicked from the lobby. This particular kind of kick will have no punishment for the first time (to help avoid you getting trolled) and it will give you a warning and allow you to get back into queue. If you are kicked a second time, you will get a 30 minute time ban, and will act like a dodge penalty. Third time, and you will get banned for the rest of the day. Yes their is the risk of duos/multiman queues (especially with dynamic queue coming in soon) holding players hostage. However, this seems unlikely to be a regular occurrence.
There should be protection for this though. First, getting kicked by a group of 4 will NEVER result in a penalty. It will just remove you from the lobby. Second, if a group is continuously kicking players, they will see penalties (time bans, lp loss, or possibly something that prevents them from being in a party). Third, you can report the players for the multiman queue. In 3 player or less queues, two votes against any player in the queue will kick the multiman queue. In 4+ player queues, they won't all be kicked, however, their queue will be flagged. And if their group is subsequently reported again in the next queue, they will not be allowed to create parties and will all get time bans. I know it's not a perfect solution, however it is a functioning method that I believe would at least hold some value and be far better than what is in place now. And also, it seems troll queues are actually fairly unlikely and the chances/number of times this would actually happen are VERY slight, just a precaution.
Finally, if some one is afk for five or more minutes and you lose while they are afk, players on their team will lose only 1/3 of the lp they would have lost (if you were gonna lost 10 now you lose 3 for example) and cannot be demoted or lose promotion games from this. In the case of multiman queues, all players will lose full lp if one of their partners dodge, to avoid duo queue issues of people jumping to save their buddies. THEY MUST BE AFK WHILE YOU LOSE PLEASE NOTE THIS. If they come back, they tried and are taking the game seriously. Yes it harms your chances, but it still is a winnable game.
Alright! Sorry for the wall of text! But this is important. I hope people think these are good ideas.
Tl;Dr- Lp Loss and time bans for afks, 1/3 lp loss for victims of an afk, and a new champion select report/kick system.
