It kept most of his previous kit(his passive is two hits now and has a higher atk speed, his heal, his stun is a skillshot rather than point-and-click, and his ult makes allies around him invincible for a few seconds) while improving on it. The only thing it took away was that his allies passively get a percentage of armor, but they added it to where they get a shield that shields them for 8% of their maximum health.
The champs you listed are all either supports or a tank that deal sustained damage(Shen has no big burst). The only one that deals high dmg is Kindred, and her ult's an AoE that(as of patch 6.7) is self-cast(meaning she can't cast it on allies to save them).

And still you cannot deny the underlying theme of invulnerability whether support, jungle, or top. Regardless who it is cast at. And by the way, a shen can easily rip apart apcs or adcs

He's right though. Being able to rip apart a champion doesn't mean a champion is bursty so yeah, Shen doesn't have "big burst". Unless of course you count 3+ seconds of E and Autos as burst. The only time he might have this once he gets a Tiamat/Titanic, but I could drop this one anyone(that isn't ranged at least) and call it burst as well.

Perhaps I should rephrase...
He doesn't have as burst as big as someone like Garen or Poppy. His taunt does allow him to burst down an enemy, and in truth, it does take off a chunk of their health early. I'm rank 5 with Shen.
Well, to be fair, supports are meant to protect their ADCs. Whether it be through utility, healing, or peel.
