Trolls

Trundle You talkin' to me!? No, I wish. I'm talking about less...useful trolls. The players who join/start matches with the intent of not playing, and generally ruining it for everyone else. It happens from time to time. Earlier this year, Co-Op vs AI matches were plagued by trolls for several days.

Today, however, I've encountered a stunning amount of trolls, in Co-Op vs AI, as well as PvP (not Ranked). Draft Pick appears to be mostly unaffected, and while I haven't played Team Builder today, I suspect that isn't too infected either. However, Blind Pick Dominion and Twisted Treeline matches have been full of trolls. Nearly every lobby I join has trolls on my team.

They all show very similar behaviour. They will typically choose a Free-To-Play champion, instalock, not communicate, and have their summoner spells set to Ghost and Heal. When in the match, they will simply walk towards a turret, and basically die. They'll hang around the spawn for a while, and repeat. If they are attacked by turrets or enemies, they will do very little. Not really move, not really do anything but auto-attack. The "builds" they get consists mostly of a pair of Boots of some kind, without enhancement. That's all.

I did manage to play a fun "regular" Twisted Treeline today, as well as a Draft Pick, but every other attempt was ruined by trolls. These accounts seem to all have different names, and seem to have been created for the specific purpose of trolling.

PvP matches with trolls today:

Dominion: 2 trolls on our team, 0 on enemy team Twisted Treeline: 1 troll on our team, 3 trolls on enemy team Those, plus several queue dodges because it became apparent what the trolls are and do. Such as just now, Dominion... 3 trolls on my team. I dislike queue dodging, but I kinda have to if my team is infested with trolls.

I realize probably not much can be done about this, but if this continues and/or gets worse, it's possible that many players will stop playing. I, myself, am disappointed that I can barely play League at all today, because of this very reason. I hope it will stop, and that Riot will crack down on the troll growth.

I believe that the players you're referring to are actually bots. There's been something of a rash of them lately, particularly in the TT, Dom, and ARAM modes. They're being banned, but that doesn't really do much to really stop them. Supposedly, they're working on something to actually prevent them, though there's no real details on it.

Then again, I wouldn't expect them to post details about such a thing, anyway. Why make it easier for botters to figure out how to game the system?

Well, that would make sense. There's too much similarity between them to be a mere coincidence. I've experienced bots on instant messaging software such as Skype, but I've never experienced this in a game before. Then again, League is very popular around the world, and it's less than surprising that this would happen sooner or later. Aye, banning a few of them won't make much of a difference, as new bot accounts will appear just as quickly.

And you're right, Riot wouldn't publicly post just exactly how they're working to combat these bots. A little confirmation message, such as "We're aware of the recent uprising in bots acting as troll players, and are working on a solution", would be appreciated, though. I was unaware this was going on until yesterday, myself.

Well, guess I'll stick with Summoner's Rift for the time being.
