Is there a reason new champs cost 7800 ip for the first week?

i normaly buy the bundle for new champions, but i wasnt so sure about bard so i saved up 6300 ip and forgot that he was going to be 7800 for the first week. Just curious if rito has an official statement as to why.

Idk if they have made an official statement, but it's pretty obviously to cut down on how many people are filling the queue with that champ week 1 (with the side benefit of getting a little extra cash from ppl who don't want to pay the IP increase but don't want to wait either lol)

You can read about when they changed the prices (and introduced the Week 1 7800 cost) here. The third Riot post says;

Quote: Rustmaker I actually really like the 7800 thing on first week. It benefits Riot by encouraging people to buy the champion with RP if they really want to buy it early and it benefits the players as a whole because discourages "impulse" buys and an over-saturation of the new champs seeing play (at least for the first week).

Riot Reply: Hippalus Yeah we hope this makes first week champion ownership a little more exclusive and less frustrating.

But it doesnt really make sense since they have cut down on the number of champions they release. if it was back to the 2 champs a month, or how ever it was i could see a point to having such a high IP cost, but nowadays since it can take up to 3+ months to release a champion, people can just get much more IP for the next champions!
