Why is Hextech Crafting even needed?

What's the positive points of hextech crafting? It gives free stuff.

What's the negative point? It gives me what I own.

I played many games to open 6 chests. All I got was 5 Champion shards, and all of them were what I owned. and I had one skin, aviator irelia, which I didn't own.

Majority of what I open are champions that I already own. I did mix 3 shards up to get zyra but there's no point.

I mean you could remove hextech crafting on my account if I'm the only one who gets 5 champs I own in a row till I finally get a skin.

Hextech is good for getting legendary skins, thats about it xD Maybe ward icons too

It's a neat, reward system. Is it needed? Nope. Do you have, -Have- to pay any heed to it? Nope. Will it be alright for others? Sure, it's luck after all. I won't pretend to be surprised when I open a case and get a champion shard of something I already have (I own most of the champs now), but I lucked out on receiving a Steel legion lux, and can scrap 1 of 3 skin shards i'm holding onto, and get something nice i might open later.

Point being, it's something nice that you Can participate in, and Can get neat things in, but deactivating things for specific accounts isn't really a realistic thing Riot is liable to do. And even if they could/would, why? If the cost of being rewarded is a 50% shot at being disappointed, are you okay with maybe getting something nice? I am.
