Does there really have to be such a huge gap in IP costs of champions

ranging from 450 to 6300 is kinda crazy if you ask me. hard to believe that you need 14 times the amount of IP for a champion that (ideally) is just as good as the 450 one. I understand the idea of ranges of difficulty and popularity but the current range is a little much
