The amount of players literally teetering on the edge of sanity

So I was having a good winning run of ranked games and I decided to play this morning.

I was am last pick in the lobby, I don't mind I have champs for each role. Our first pick says he will go kalista mid because he is really good with her I am able to get my adc role and lock in Vayne bot.

As soon as the game starts our top laner and support (morgana) start to flame the guy going mid, saying it's a lost game, gg, report etc. A few minutes in I am about parity with ashe in terms of farm and my supp tells me if I don't last hit better he will go afk. We get about 4 kills in bot, all for the supp and he flames me for not taking those kills, even though our lane is 4-0 in our favour and we have got a drake so really the game is looking good for us. He suddenly goes mental, recalls and declares he is afk because I can't farm (I am 3 CS ahead of the enemy ashe, even though I am Vayne and like I said our bot lane has 4 kills collectively...).

I try to 2 vs 1 the lane and I do die, eventually the supp comes back, but by this time ashe is fed. Our kalista mid who despite feeding the game badly, is a nice guy, bit of a joker and never flames, every single time he dies morg launches the most insane, diabolical extended rant on the poor guy, whilst spamming surrender votes every few minutes after 20. Claiming he is an idiot for going kali mid, blah blah blah

I just don't understand, the game itself was perfectly winnable, how can people have such extreme emotional reactions to the most minor set backs? In society how do these people function. The sad thing is, he was actually a decent support, but he just could not understand how his flaming and going afk for a few minutes, was more detrimental to the team that our fairly nice mid laner who fed, but still made the effort.

"Trying to have a good time" and "playing ranked solo queue" hardly ever line up. Like, zero times. If you manage to have fun with other ranked players, send me their summoner names right now so I can creepily stalk them until they become my friends.

For ranked, I always type the following before we load into game:

DrCyanide: gl, hf DrCyanide: most importantly, hf

I feel like it helps pull some people back from the brink a little, and sets the tone for the match.

When someone is acting like Morg, it can be helpful to point out that the team can still do it and point out all the things that are going right. It's hard to do in the middle of the game though. Still, even things like typing ":(" when they say they're going to AFK can effect them. I've had several teammates decide not to AFK after getting a ":( but we need you!".

Well, it looks like those guys were a bit on tilt, maybe after losing a couple games because their team comp wasn't good enough. The smallest bad omen (like say, a first blood) can easily make them lose hope, knowing that the game might go as bad as the previous ones. Not exactly defending their actions (because Kalista mid is awesome) but you have to understand their mindset and judge how to bring them back into the game. They're not insane, they're just going through a rough day and it's our job to make it better.

I will reply to the original post with an experience of my own. I have been playing for more than 3 years, but this one stuck to my mind for the exact same reason fractalfantasies mentions: how can people like this function in a normal society?

We were sieging the enemy nexus turrets and were very close to securing the win, when a stray enemy champ jumped out to defend. Ryze and myself responded, I took the kill and went back to hitting the turret. At this point, Ryze stopped dead still and proceeded to type how I stole his kill and how I did not deserve it. I responded (calmly) that it did not matter at this point and that we can end the game in 30 seconds if he just uses his right click a bit.

He refused, went into their fountain and I was not able to finish on my own (hue, hue) as I was a lowly Leona support. Ryze then proceeded to die on cooldown, running into the enemy team, which put them back in the game. We lost as a result.

As an analogy: imagine you're playing in an important soccer match, dribbling past all defenders and scoring the goal yourself instead of passing it to your teammate who was next to you. The latter then throws a fit and starts taking the ball and scoring own goals. Instead of your team ending up with a win, without having you on the scorer list, you prefer to lose in order to punish them.

When I say "how can they function in society" I mean that people like this are a liability for every group they become a part of, be it at work or for a hobby. How can someone prefer to punish a peer and have themselves suffer as well. The hate for another becomes greater than the "love" for oneself. I would never see myself doing something detrimental to my progress "just" to teach someone a lesson.

So a few of the east coast (usa) streamers have been going to EUW cause the ping is roughly the same for them and they want to play with their viewer base. From what i understand that EU in generally has a pretty hostile environment, Players were being nationalist, recisit and in game jerks. I am not sure if the tribunal system being down so long is to blame or not. Riot has said that standard were set by what people found acceptable in each region. With the EU servers being multi nataiona/lingual they may have way lower standards since no one is expected to speak the same langue.

I am not saying NA does not have it share of trolls. It just that we do not have any nationalist issues since its USA and Canada, and everyone knows Canada is just our hat.

My advice is if you can see if their are less toxic times to play at. I personally try to avoid solo Q in NA untill around 7 pm. The kids have had time to unwind from school and have eaten dinner (west coaster) and some of them are already in bed! This may not be feasible for you though.

this kind of thing happens to me and my friends allot. we rarely pick a typical metta team (hiemer zerath bot zill shako duo mid all yordle team. kinda different but fun experimental things) usually a 5 man group but when its just 2 or 3 of us and we pull out one of our wacky combos its insta troll even though they had time to leave the match from the beginning. we usually do a decent job too and win most of our games but like all other teams when there's a week link due to flaming/trolling or all out giving up we lose. so what i think the problem is, lies in the player itself and what people think work the best. people are stuck in there ways and jaded beyond the point where there mind is closed to all other possible ways of playing the game. it comes down to if you play for fun or to win.

ps. there is allot of intresting (hidden) champ combos out there. just try shako zill duo top or mid. just for the luls stealth bomber ftw

Oh, I feel you. It's especially bad in division 5 of anything because "durr I'm 0 lp can't get demoted don't need to control my emotional issues". Ive seen:

-Support raging and threatening to afk over wolves. Then actually going afk when he doesn't get all future wolves. -Top going batshit insane over wolves and crying over it for the rest of the game while intent feeding, then I had to dodge the next game because he was still fuming at the mouth in the next champ select. -Support raging any time the jungle successfully ganked another lane "noob focus 40% of the team, not 20% the Riven". Yes, I'm going to start bot side and pass up an easy chance to get a RIVEN rolling so I can walk all the way across the map just to gank for a Soraka... -ADC doing the same, except more like a whiny aunt "that was a good gank but you really shouldn't help these unskilled players, come bot oh dearie me I died while typing that ah well it was worth now you know to only come bot". Eventually started intent feeding.

I'll just stop there...

I stopped trying to explain how ADC mid works to my teammates. Even if I get fed, having them recognize that I went AD instead of AP (Kennen) gets me flamed to hell and back. Regardless, it's always fun to confuzzle the enemy mid every so often. Last game resulted in Zed getting completely zoned by what he thought was going to be some lousy energy mage. He was useless for the rest of the game.
