Is league getting more competitive in NA or are people getting complacent?

I've been looking through people that complain about their placements. All of them have one thing in common, their downward spiral began at some point during last season. Their league just didn't catch up to their MMR yet. A lot of them were replaced not based so much on their performance in provisional matches but on their performance in the past months or longer.

So are people getting complacent once they get a certain rank and because of it getting worse while thinking they're hot stuff? Is everyone else getting better? Or is this the simple case of a very small extremely vocal minority?

One thing is for sure, they all very clearly earned the spots they landed in, the few with legit bad placements will just win back up. By that I mean people that went like 1-9 and just had a bad streak like any other matches, not ones that went 5-5 and claim that the LoL boogieman stole their league.

Yeah shouldn't really matter what league you're placed in, i got placed in bronze 4 after being silver last season, and i'm already bronze 2 by just playing today, and will probably end up in silver again once the day is done. It's a pain to go through, but if you deserve a league, then you're not gonna be stuck in bronze forever.

Didn't Riot change ranking so you can't drop out of a bracket like Silver, Gold, or Plat a few months ago?

It seems everyone that's complaining was in tier V, which probably means they would've gotten the boot out of their respective League based on their performance had Riot not implemented a safety to stay within a given league.
