I decided to randomly cast my q on a yi, thinking that it wouldn't do anything (because he's immune to slows), but it actually makes him run really fast the other way. This actually saved my team on multiple occasions, because this Yi was doing extremely well vs us, and I was the only one that could actually stop his reign of terror.

GetMariahCarried1 votesYes and no. It's a different cc altogether, that should be obvious. You can't cast, you can't basic attack, it's basically a stun. But added to that, Riot included some pathing they coded as a misdirect, but also debuffed people's move speed for the duration of that to give it the fear effect they wanted.
So, not surprisingly, with that coding, a dude immune to slows just flies off into the wild blue.

DorkunedAuras13 votesThe thing is that all fears come with a built in slow to prevent their target from doing exactly that... the problem is that yi is immune to slows, and thus just sprints the hell away.
SkyBlade794 votesWhich makes it even better, because fearing him for 2.25 seconds at the right time (unlike my gif, but I couldn't be bothered to search the whole replay for a time I used it better) will effectively remove him from a teamfight, and it will also basically cancel his ultimate. I don't think it's a problem at all.
DorkunedAuras1 votesProblem wasn't really the right word. Like most people, I think yi can be annoying (not strong, just a bit of a pain, like teemo), so the ability to remove 4.5 seconds from his ult is AMAZING.
