Stop punishing people for defending themself.

At what point did Riot start promoting that people shouldn't defend them self? Basically you can have a 0-15 Adc talk shit about you all game and even at the end of the game and you are suppose to keep your mouth shut, take it like a bitch and then report at the end of the game and hope something happens...Other wise if you say anything back or even defend yourself you get a report back which could lead to a chat restriction/suspension.

Honestly I don't care about people's opinion on this matter.. I would just like to point this out. No other game that I have played or seen basically tells you if you respond to someone talking shit to you, you will be punished other than this game.

In fact most other games basically let you talk shit all you want as long as they aren't Racist or making death threats and even then some of those games don't even care. Yet they have a less toxic community than this one... Just let people say what they want and make a guideline of what isn't acceptable because as it is right now the only people you are empowering is trolls and making this game game more toxic by punishing every word that is said that someone doesn't agree with.

I won't be checking this thread because I'm sure there will be people who lack common sense on here trolling - but let this sink in-

Other games- say what you want as long as it isn't racist or death threats (Low to Mild toxic) League of Legends- very limited on what you can say if anything without someone getting offended and reporting you and you get punished - (Very High toxic community)

Don't take my word for it, type in "most toxic gaming community" on goggle and see what game comes up over and over.

There's a difference between getting slapped and getting trolled. If you're getting slapped you have the power to stop the person from slapping you with a proportional response.

If you're getting trolled, responding will only make them troll more.

If you defend yourself because you're getting slapped that is perfectly fine, they are harming you.

If you "defend" yourself because someone called you a bad name you might as well be a child. Words don't cause damage, though they can amplify damage that is already there.

What you're calling self respect is really pride. Try learning to be the better man.

And as much as people don't like the whole just mute the player suggestion, it works so it's a solution to the problem. Honestly Why fight with someone? Even outside of this game if you see someone punching someone else out and you turn and fight the guy you can face charges for assault this is how life works and it's basic knowledge.

If I were to accept being hit back, I'll just say to him "You are not even worth fighting", and watch that guy gasp in disbelief and him beating me like a whipped puppy. I guess this should also go for the same in-game, and all you gotta do is not write anything back, and watch that guy boiling up his hatred words to put into the game chat box. Boy, pretty sure he is gonna get chat restricted soon. There's a mute button for a good reason.

Yes. You are expected to shut your mouth and take it. Responding to someone like that isn't going to make the problem go away, it escalates it because they have nothing better to do than try to piss you off. Nothing someone like that says has any meaning. Mute them and move on. Unless you like getting chat restricted, because responding to them makes you as bad as them.

That's how it works, whether you like it or not.

Mute is a solution. Getting into a dumb argument with a dumb troll is a good way to get banned, as you have learned. The rest of your team does not want to sit through your petulant squabble with the troll. They'll just mute and report both of you.

League of Legends, Im not sure you realise this, but it is largely a TEAM game. Muting your own team is not a solution. If I wanted to play a solo game I would go play Assassins Creed or something. You cant win a team game without communication.

Pings are a valid form of communication, as specifically stated by Riot. You don't need to put up with bull shit in order to be a team player, otherwise Riot would simply remove the mute button.

What if your team wants to execute an advanced plan but you won't see it because you muted them? I just simply ignore trolls, or say something clever (or completely confusing) enough to shut them up.

Riot has stated, in their own words, that muting people is allowed and using pings as your only method of communication is allowed. It does limit communication, obviously, but it is in accordance with the rules if you wish to do so.

Couldn't agree more with that. And yes League is a team base game but you know what everyone has as a tool to use for communication? Pings! Most games I had I didn't even need to say anything, just ping and that got the message out there.

Honestly what can you say that a ping can't provide for your gameplay that isn't toxic or random conversation?!?

Only few things I can think of is telling someone that they might have picked up a wrong item or advice which you could easily unmute that person if they were being toxic and say it to them then go back to muting them but most likely they wouldnt listen to you either way if they're being toxic. Your team communication won't get affected what so ever since you would only be muting whoever is being toxic.

Oh that's why you're complaining to support - that also explains why you blame support instead of realizing you screwed yourself. Someone wants to mouth off, that's their choice to risk their own account. You choose to retaliate towards those folks, you put yourself at risk of punishment because someone you'll probably never meet said something mean to you over the internet.

It's kind of frustrating how many people view the world this way. Getting into fights doesn't make you strong, it shows a tendency to not have the mental control required to be above them.

It takes a lot more strength of character to ignore someone insulting you than to turn on them and be just as bad. This is not "taking it like a bitch", it's being the bigger man (or woman) and being strong enough to just let it go.

Retaliation is the weak way out of conflict. If some guy starts yelling at me on the street and I start yelling back, I have just gone down to that guy's level. I'm not doing anything productive, and am in fact making the situation worse. If, however, I just ignore the guy and go about my day, I'm showing that I don't care what he thinks/is saying. Much more of a powerful response.

Thats for making a thread and acting like you don't care about other people opinions on the matter even though if everyone agreed with you, you would be all over this thread. Also there's a mute button you don't have to take anything.

Plus in all MOBA communities I've been in which is pretty much all that got released to the North America side had the same rules against toxic behavior. To be honest you have a toxic mentally so you can't understand this common sense to follow the rules and so you believe other players even though they are by far the minority that follow these rules to have a lack of common sense.

I hope you change one day but whatever, I'm not here to worry about you.

So unless you can point out these 'games' (btw for all fairness they should be MOBAs since thats what LoL ) you have no real facts. If you request the guidelines of the MOBAs I've played I can happily show you them.

I had hoped you might be reasoned with, made to understand how a community works, but I see that you are just a troll. Many people have come in here with the hope of enlightening, and I think that a lot of these comments are a testament to the good nature of a large portion of the community.

This community will not tolerate toxicity. This includes trolls, pointless arguments, directed and hateful profanity/slurs, or any of the like in speech or sportsmanship. I am happy to see so many people step forward here and show that they won't stand for people like you or the ones you complain about - and yet even in standing against what you represent, they do so in a respectful, informative manner. Toxic persons will be educated by the community and those that cannot be respectful and good sportsmen will undoubtedly suffer restrictions and/or bans. This is how a community forms, protects itself, and chooses what it stands for.

I want to thank all you other commenters here for showing just how much care and respect there is, even in the face of obstinate negativity.

who said anything about stabbing? like where did that come from. Obviously I said defend yourself not go murder someone. Go up to anyone in real life and start being toxic to them and see what happens. Yet in this game we are supposed to pretend human nature doesn't exists while we walk away with our tail between our legs because God forbid the person/troll being toxic in the first place might get offended.

You can't even post the persons name on forums because Riot cares more about the trolls feeling then the person being trolled. That's why I like games like wow, you can say anything you want depending on certain things such as racism etc, but you cn call someone a noob or they suck all day is you want and that was the most popular game for years. Now you have these games telling you that you can say whatever you want "AS LONG AS" you are kissing their ass while you are doing it. In fact some games now don't even let you talk, they give you a drop down window of nothing but nice stuff and that's it because you aren't allowed to voice your opinion.

You aren't allowed to ask why Vayne is trying to solo baron at level 10, or why herimer is building ad or why Ashe decided to go full ap. You aren't allowed to tell someone to stop feeding if they are doing it on purpose or not playing passive .. You aren't allowed to defend yourself while the whole game they are talking shit about you. Why? Because they might get offended and report you.

It's got to the point I only play this game with friends, the game itself is fun. The community and the rules for this game however suck, plain and simple. You don't have to agree with me, but that is fact.

You are trying to play it off as I want to go to some random person who hasn't said anything and start being toxic.. no.. I'm talking about people already being toxic.

It was an example and a pretty clear one at that.

Also you can do all those things like ask why Vayne soloed baron without getting punished which is also fact (See we can all throw that word around) I've done it and I've see other players that have the human speech ability to actually ask someone why they did something in a non-insulting way. Even though sometimes people get defensive you can actually cool them off by adding words to confirm that you were literally trying to figure out what was their game strategy and maybe give tips on how it could work next time.

And we all deal with toxic players but you can ignore them. The rules they have in this community is common in almost every game you play and especially MOBAs.

Yea if you want to defend yourself there is a mute button. It's called acting like an adult, only children get into insult fights, dont act like a child. What right do you have to complain about other people being toxic when you are one of them, never ever lower yourself to their level. If you truly have a problem with someone insulting you then just mute them. From now on instead of responding with more hate just laugh, its just words from someone you have never met.

So if there is the mute button, why be able to report someone for negative attitude or verbal abuse than? Either way you are going to contradict yourself trying to reply because how can you verbal abuse someone if they are muted? Or why report when you have the option to mute everyone?

As for the adult aspect, if you are going to sit there and pretend you have never gotten mad or defended yourself than you are full of it. Other wise you have no self respect. I'm sorry but if someone is going to run their mouth they deserve to be put in their place, it has nothing to do with being a kid or an adult. If some guy walks up to your girlfriend and starts calling her names, whore, slut etc are you going to sit there and be like... Ima be an adult about this and let him do it and not say anything? If so you are a coward.

Defending yourself should not be punishable, it's not like that in rl and it's not like that in other games only here. Argue all you want those are facts.

Actually it does have something to being an adult or a child. If someone is yelling at my girldfriend im going to ignore him, take her and walk away... That guy probably has some serious issues, why even bother with him? If you want to call me a coward thats fine lol i dont care what you think anyways. If i insult someone back i rarely ever mean it, its mostly just to agitate them more because it is funny to see what insults they come up with, but i dont really do that anymore (I did awhile ago not so much anymore).

No defending yourself isnt punishable, i dont know what you are talking about all you need to say is "Stop or ill report you" that is defending yourself way more then being toxic right back. Didnt your mother ever teach you if you have nothing good to say then dont say anything at all? This applies to when someone is insulting you too, like i said just laugh it off because by responding to their insult you are dancing to their tune. They want you to respond so they can flame some more, ill repeat THIS IS WHAT CHILDREN DO... its like an older brother picking on a little sister, whatever gets a response out of her he will keep doing.

Btw i think that because this isnt irl it should matter MORE how you act. If you cant keep your cool on a video game then that speaks volumes about what kind of person you are in real life society.

Simple:

Situation 1) 10 players in game 1 person being a jerk nobody responds game ends, 4-9 people report one person for being a jerk and move on with life

Situation 2) 10 players in game 1 person being a jerk one person responds now we have two people being a jerk Situation gradually escalates because more people jump on the hate train suddenly we have 10 people being a jerk and everyone reports everyohe else ensuring the reports essentially mean nothing

Which situation is better for everyone?
