League of Legends - Lag

Why is this game laggy today? I literally tried to play a game about 15 minutes ago, stayed at a constant ping of 138(usually have 83, which is playable smoothness to me) But then 138 would rocket up to 509, and stick there for a good minute, then it would come down to exactly 138, and shoot up again, no other games I have do this, ive restarted my net and checked my network, all connected, even did a ping test and I was at 29ms(not the best, but still good) Why am I getting such high ping, is anyone else experiencing the unusual lag, I lost a game cause of this.
