Ranked Distribution

Anyone remember why riot changed the elo/mmr for rankings above bronze? If I recall in season 2 silver elo/mmr started at like 1300-1400 and now it starts at 1200.

Silver being bumped down obviously increased number of players in all divisions above bronze.

Not that it effects me to much since I only really play my placements in ranked but just seemed odd to me that riot would devalue rewards with an increasing player base.
