Let's just be professional on the Boards.

Okay, just hear me out.

TL:DR: If you ask for something from Riot (or anyone for that matter), do it politely.

I'm seeing way too many posts on the boards that are rage-filled. Riot probably isn't going to listen to you if you are screaming at them whilst cursing. Think about it. If you were a Riot employee, working on champion balance, wouldn't you be more inclined to fix Aatrox or nerf Kalista of you were asked politely to do so? We, as League players could get a lot more changed if we minded our manners and proposed ideas in a professional and detailed manner. I don't want to see any more "Kalista is so f-ing overpowered she gets a free f-ing skillshot dodge after every f-ing autoattack!!!"

So what I'm proposing is that we all put our big boy pants on and act like civilized people.

To help outline my proposal for a newfound air of professionalism on the boards, here are some rules:

  1. Never curse - Cursing is universally regarded as being rude and unprofessional.
  2. Use correct grammar - Using bad grammar will nullify most points you have, no matter how good they are. The reader will most likely subconsciously (or consciously) dismiss you as an idiot and will take your point less seriously.
  3. Always respect Riot - They, after all , made the game, and allow you to play it. Despite their small faults, they made an amazing game that millions love to play. They deserve a great deal of credit for that.
  4. Respect how hard it is to balance League - Look at it this way. there are 126 champions in League! (That's a lot in case you didn't know.) Keeping an omnipresent balance in the power of every champion and item and map and buff and so on is nearly impossible! So next time you find yourself thinking "The balance team at Riot sucks!", think again. They have a lot to work with and think about, with the game changing over time. On the whole, Riot does a great job. The game is addicting even after being out for 5-6 years. There is a reason why League is so good, and that reason is that Riot makes it that way.
  5. _Don't use Caps Lock _- Just don't... It's an eyesore that gets nothing done.

Let's just act like adults.

Thanks for reading.

Edit: 7/15: Added a TL:DR. Also, wow! Almost 40 upvotes within a few hours! Let's really try to make this heard within the community.

Edit: 7/16: Removed "what not do do" link, as it, in hindsight, conflicts with the board guidelines.

I tend to think that if you used this same template for all conversations the world would be a happier place...

Thanks for taking the time to write this up.

Common sense? Logic? Politeness?

Get the fuck out!!!!

Seriously though, we would progress so far as a human race if we just learned how to properly convey feelings and opinions without being dicks towards each other.

Good post, but I present the following:

  1. Totally agree with the first rule. Kids use these forums.
  2. It is nice, but unfortunately since this is the US, grammar isn't really taught.
  3. With as much money as Riot has made off of me, I think I am entitled to the occasional rant.
  4. Perfectly balancing the game is definitely hard, but there are OBVIOUS cases where champions and items need fixed and fixed quickly.
  5. It can be used to emphasize significant points.

As for the rage you see in the forums, it's due to people getting fed up with Riot not punishing bad behavior and fixing obvious issues. People run out of patience at some point.

Actually, no. Nobody listens to any constructive, respectful, & well-written response unless it gets massively popular due to LCS relevance or some other sort of thing. I definitely agree (with the OP) that raging doesn't help a case. However, honestly, the only way to get anything done around here anymore is to make a bandwagon post with no explanation or proof so that nobody has to actually read.

Proof: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/bnbvfzEj-one-way-you-could-do-ranked-teambuilder-in-depth-idea http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/riot-official/AL66zXPE-upgrading-the-tribunal http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/vaPIyocw-can-we-see-some-qol-changes-for-supports Our current lore situation Literally the entire Support role's position. Outsiders who would only play Support if they can play Thresh [I have proof of people who do this] look at Support and think it's fine. But if you actually main more than 4 Supports in the role you will see that it is not fine. Does anybody care? Nope. Why? Because nobody plays it, except for the players like me who actually really care. This can go hand in hand with many other champions...... See Taric, Yorick, Etc.

Honestly it's truly heartbreaking to see the champions that essentially brought me to this game and literally make up half the game for me game be completely ignored because the popular champions or aspects get all the attention. What's even worse, is when anyone tries to draw some attention to them, it gets completely ignored as well because, yes again, nobody cares. Why read and support a post about improving a role that exists and is loved by many when you can read about people being tired of item 3708 in [you guessed it] the immensely popular Midlane. It's not that other things shouldn't have attention and changes, it's that ALL of it is on them, and parts of the game [see Support, and even ADC] have literally no representatives or people to stand up and say "Hey, we don't like this.... Perhaps we can work together for a change?"

It's as if League of Legends is a country and there's like 10 entire states with no representatives or influence. Are there people in those states? Oh yes. Do they contribute to the country? Definitely! But does anyone care? Nah.

I like this idea. Unfortunately if people had the capacity to act like adults chat bans / reports wouldn't be necessary.

Okay, just hear me out.

If you were a Riot employee, working on champion balance, wouldn't you be more inclined to fix Aatrox or nerf Kalista of you were asked politely to do so?

Not really...you have to be pretty incompetent to balance around "did this person ask me politely?".

We, as League players could get a lot more changed if we minded our manners and proposed ideas in a professional and detailed manner. I don't want to see any more "Kalista is so f-ing overpowered she gets a free f-ing skillshot dodge after every f-ing autoattack!!!"

A post can make very good points and be highly disrespectful at the same time,I mean take a look at the following statements:

1)What kind of a retarded monkey thought kalista's passive was a good idea? It's absolutely horrible to play against as a melee or a skillshot based champion,do we really want this game to devolve to kalista+annie point clicking yasuo+ryze?

2)I think kalista's passive isn't designed too well,it makes it too easy for her to kite all immobile melee champions, and the reliability of skillshots isn't exactly balanced around that sort of mobility either, making it too easy for her to avoid,I think this sort of mobility pushes the game towards a point-click meta, which I personally don't want to see.

Now before you immediately react, read both carefully,do they really say anything different? If a professional is reading either of them, will he get a different impression from any of them? They both convey the same message just that the first one is more aggresive, granted I'm sure riot wouldn't reply to the first but might respond to the second, but the message they get across is the same.

Just because a post has a very negative tone doesn't mean it isn't valid, nor does it mean the validity is hidden or is harder to understand, all it means is that the post has a very negative tone so you probably don't want to reply to it,and with the balance team being busy, they will most likely won't reply anyway,so...eh.

I think the point he is making is........you can still be mad/angry/sore/pissed etc.........but conduct yourself in a respectful manner when posting. Everyone gets mad at some point, learn how to effectively communicate.

Uiru7/16/2015, 9:35:39 AM2 votes

You can only say the same thing so politely so many times before the lies and silence begin to grate.

Riot is lucky people are still posting rageposts because the next phase is nothing. That's when people have finally moved on to something else.

disregardable7/15/2015, 7:21:35 PM2 votes

No, fuck that. The problem is not the language used but the message behind it (poor grammar excluded- we do need to actually understand what you're saying). If it's just your typical circle-jerk complaints with no suggestions or solutions (like that post), there is nothing to be said. What can they really say to "You have a bunch of failings, some of which are completely subjective! I quit!" ? The point of going on the forums is not to be a nice person; we don't need to be uber respectful of Riots flaws. If anything, we should probably be challenging them. We just need to do so in a discussionary manor. If that's even a word.

stealthfox947/15/2015, 7:57:44 PM2 votes

Wow a post on this forum regarding RIOT that actually makes sense and uses logic.

jDiosama7/15/2015, 9:47:36 PM2 votes

I'll be constructive, but I'm also gonna be a d*ck about it. Sorry, that's kinda how I am.

FUK U RITO BELANCE CHEMPS CORETLY! Is this right?

Wajster7/16/2015, 10:13:07 PM1 votes

So even though this person directly calls out someone on the forums, even linking to their thread his post will stay up because its a "for Riot" post.

Dastin7/17/2015, 3:20:19 AM1 votes

In general people who complain about Riot remind me of spoiled children.

As somebody who has played MMOs from various developers, some of them quite loyally for years, I've come to see Riot as being one of the best if not THE best game developer/company around. They don't always do perfect but you can't expect them to. Nobody is perfect. However they do get far closer than any other I've ever seen by a large margin. It may change in the distant future, it usually does, but for now they're the most down to Earth and transparent gaming company I've had the pleasure of being a customer of.

Constructive criticism is one thing but if you're raging at this company you need to go experience how most every other one operates. You'll come back on your hands and knees begging Riot to take you back and talking about how wrong you were to leave it.

Stealing from Churchill a bit (and in turn whoever he borrowed it from originally) but; Riot is the worst gaming company except all others.

BakedLotion7/17/2015, 3:31:48 AM1 votes

Did Lyte brainwash you? O: Cursing isn't exactly unprofessional. If you're working with all adults, and not in education (with kids) everyone throws curses around when speaking to each other, or publicly. Well I grew up in brooklyn so idk bout u Ofc its not like random nonsense cursing like fuck you fucking bitch, it's more like "So our sales went down today cause of that fucking company" etc

jQuery7/17/2015, 2:34:02 PM1 votes

If you were a Riot employee, working on champion balance, wouldn't you be more inclined to fix Aatrox or nerf Kalista of you were asked politely to do so?

I just hope that you formulated this badly...

Because this just sounds bad; They don't need our begging to do what they singed up for. When one accepts a job one agrees to take responsibility for his production for a monetary compensation. Enjoying the work does help... but that is another topic.

What you said sounds like, "Quin fixes are late coz you don't beg Reds enough".

But i do agree with you, and that is valid for all post anywhere on the internet. No one wants to respond to a angry and rude man, and on the internet with our avatar accounts we have the privilege to ignore such people without being bothered.

But people also need to remember that these Boards != Riot Support. As much as I can understand Rioters are not obligated to read and write here, and most of the time they do it is in their private time.

So who ever thinks that this is the place to let off some steam for his frustration with the game or the community; can do so. I for example sometimes feel the need to let rioters know that there is something within their game that Im frustrated about (Like not having a tribunal for 2 F**** years!)... And that's it, i just want o be a voice in the many and remind them that we still do care. And this in my opinion also has a place on these boards. Reds do not need replay to this post of mine. And I don't expect them to do replay.

How ever when one manage to find a good solution for the aspects that frustrates him, should be polite and clear in his post in order raise his odds in striking a conversation with the Developer that might get use of that suggestion.

Also no one should point out and criticize Reds that just want to hang out in the Meme section late at night ! Someone did that recently and i think its wrong. They are not enslaved to Riot.
