is it possible to grab chat history without a report?
I want to preserve a match for the pure hilarity of it but am not sure if this is possible.

Whose chat? Riot will not provide the chat logs of the other players for you, so I think your only real option is a raw recording of the match as you play it. You can set up third party recording programs to take regular screenshots too, which would be much less space/CPU intensive than video, though you'd need it to take them frequently.
