To heavily reduce toxicity could you not just do this...?

What we have, that does NOT work; the current infrastructure for the honor system is 4 types of honor ribbons. Great... If you garner enough of each or a combination of sets of honors, you're granted ribbons that display on your loading portrait.

So to make people actually want to perform honorably, positive reinforcement is required, unlike this new quick-escalation ban-system currently being used, which isn't reforming anyone in the further-negative outreach. Positive reinforcement succeeds negative and is supported by behavioral psychology [1].

Now this is the merit in the current approach of the honor system - however, people really don't care about a ribbon on their border, too much. You're trying to convert the unconverted not to motivate those whom are already honorable. Those whom are honorable now, would be honorable without said ribbon(s). The rewards aren't substantial enough to motivate the players who are teetering on the negative side of neutral.

Proposed solution:

Now if instead of these honor points which evaluate to honor ribbons why not replace this system with an honor-currency. Which would allow you to purchase in-game benefits from an honor-store (you could tie this in as the store becomes available at thanksgiving if it is not always available, end of season, (thanks giving discount?) etc.)

Possible trinkets available in the 'honor-store':

In-game titles that pre-fix your name in chat((?)Can toggle them off in settings):

  • 'The honorable'
  • 'Captain'
  • 'Don'

In game icon's displayed with your name in chat((?)Can toggle them off in settings):

  • All the region icons such as Demacia, Noxus, etc.

An end of season skin? Ideas for this:

  • Chivalrous Hecarim (He's a medieval lancer)
  • Chivalrous Wukong (Chain-mail and quarterstaff)
  • etc.

End of season summoner icon(s):

  • Could put pre-existing honor icons here
  • Could create a hand-shake icon
  • Could create other themed icons relative to this (etc.)

Summoner icon emotes:

  • Handshake above the head
  • Other idea(s)

Honorable ward-skin?

Honorable chromas? (don't have to be exclusively honor-currency, could require more than one i.e this chroma(s) requiring x amount of Honor credit and y amount of IP/RP. Could be a discount of 5%-10%, everything is welcomed).

Enough accrued honor currency could allow you to become some sort of 'green' as there are on boards, in game.

How would this currency work? You gain currency per game played where you weren't toxic at a flat slow-rate. You gain more currency per game played where you displayed exceedingly honorable behavior. You lose currency for being tagged with leaver-buster, for displaying toxic behavior, and intentional feeding.

Your ability to garner this currency should NEVER be impeded as a punishment as that would be taking steps backwards. You should just lose a proportionate amount of currency (spontaneous Riot tax!) based on the severity of the incident and your history. History would be cleared over time of reform. Continuous positive behavior should garner a modifier to gain larger amounts of this currency.

Feedback on this idea would be greatly appreciated; add any additions, deductions or amendments you would make to this idea below, please vote on the post accordingly to your view on this concept and in the poll below.

Thank you :)

great idea they really need to reward non toxic people more than just a silly non permanent green ribbon

Agree completely with the first part of the sentence, but the last part is incorrect. Most players that get a punishment of any sort in the current system do reform. It's actually a very small percentage overall that's reaching the point of a permanent ban.

But just because the punishment system tends to work, that doesn't mean there shouldn't be a more visible positive enforcement system in play, too. I'd love for there to be something implemented to actually incentivize people to be positive in the game. As it is now, the only real motivation is to remain at least neutral, so that you don't get banned.

No what Riot needs to do is teach the player base how to play this game. True toxic people of LOL are people who dont understand this game, dont understand match ups, dont know how to cs, dont know how to not die, dont know how to use OP champs to your advantage, dont know how to ward, dont know how to use mini map, dont know how to trade, dont know how to play safe, and dont know how to play this game good. People seem to over think what toxic is and how to fix it. Im tired of babies getting bent outta shape cuz someone said something mean. You probably deserved it...just learn from your mistake and dont do it again. Remember guys...for every action, there is a reaction. If you dont like the reaction...stop doing the action.............................................................
