Runes -

Are too expensive.

With a boost, I reduce the games needed to get a completed rune page from... ~87 (win/loss I picked roughly 100 ip) to.. ~44... That's still around 5 and a half days at 8 games a day. Doesn't that sound insane? 7 day boost, which is $8.00 and then 26 hours (35 minutes per game, although it's likely higher).. For one rune page. Or without a boost, it's 51 hours for a full page.

To me that sounds like an incredible amount of work to get something that is pretty necessary for the game if you plan on playing any ranked.

One full runepage of the cheapest tier 3 runes is 8,610 ip. That's more than any champion and it will seriously take months to fill enough pages to play ranked adequately (Not double stacking boosts) The most expensive, hopefully my math is right here, is 28,290 ip. O_O

If your math is right there, that is a ridiculous amount of time and IP. The obvious defense is that runes are for the dedicated to make sure they still have value for IP once they own all the champions they would want, I know I am not in that demographic. I only own a few champions (well under 40, I don't remember exactly how many). I do know that several of my higher tier friends still have use for IP because the IP costs are so high on runes. The only role that seems to need runes is the jungle. So far, I have been able to play every other role without the runes. Now that I have a mostly filled rune page, I am able to jungle moderately well. I do know for a fact that I will not be buying runes in vast amounts any time soon, as I would much rather get a new champion than get +4 ability power.

TLDR: Runes are not mandatory for most roles as far as I am aware (could just be me being a newb, I just recently hit 30), and their pricing is designed to fit those who are going to be playing the game for many years to come, rather than be accessible to all players from the start.
