Whatever happened to that built-in replay feature?

I remember WAY back when, Riot talked about integrating their own replay service into the League client itself. That way all the games you played were recorded automatically and you could watch them over again without having to rely on some third party service. After it was briefly mentioned initially, it was never brought up again. I recently went back into the PBE today after not being on the server in a long time and noticed that the replay section that used to be there was completely removed.

So has Riot just completely scrapped this concept entirely? I didn't even hear an official statement saying that they were done with it. Just poof and it was gone overnight. I loved the idea of a built-in replay client, since LOL Replay isn't exactly up to snuff nowadays.
