A few conditions:

  1. Your MMR is lower than your currently rank suggests it should be. This lowers the amount you get for a win and raises the amount you lose for a loss to try and get you back to where you are supposed to be.

  2. You were on Blue side instead of Red. Blue side gains less LP from a win and loses more from a loss while Red side gains more from a win and loses less LP if you lose because statistically you are more likely to lose on Red side than on Blue.

  3. A combination of the two above.

Essentially because you lose more games than you win(over the last 100 or so games). It helps you get the rank you belong faster, which in this case is down. When you win over 50% of your games then you will gain more for a win than you lose for a loss.

Your LP gains are determined by the difference between your actually MMR and expected MMR ranges for your rank. If its lower than the expected value you lose more, if its higher you win more. Losing at 0LP also hurts LP gains since your MMR is still going down but you aren't losing LP.
