So is there any reason some champions exist anymore?

So it may sound like a dumb question but after really thinking about it, why do champs like etc still exist? They aren't buffed or really nerfed in any patches and everything they do someone else does better. It just seems odd to have a champ that costs more and is released later that is worst then a champ you can buy for much cheaper and does a much better job. I know champs like kallista and quinn do have gimmicks that kinda set them apart but really why choose kallista over someone like ashe or drave?

Because RIOT had paid employees and spent the effort to releases these champion.

used or not, they are worth something, both in the champion itself and the skins that can be bought

until RIOT decides that the champion is beyond redemption, there is absolutely no reason why they cannot remain the in the store.

Also i assume those who already have these champions will cry "REFUND REFUND" and that bad ju ju for any business.

There's more to it than that.

Are you new? No offense intended. As metas shift and seasons come and go, champions fall in and out of favor. Not long ago, Kalista was a top tier marksman, and Urgot was a counterpick to mid AD Assassins.

Before that, top lane was solely the home of bruiser champions, namely Renekton Shyvana Sion DrMundo and even the occasional Alistar . No Jayce or tank Ekko. The Marksman meta consisted of Lucian Twitch Sivir Kalista . Mid was always Ahri Ziggs Zed Morgana (Morgana as a flex, support or mid)

Next season, we'll see another shift. Always happens. Perhaps pure tanks like Sion and Shen will become top lane meta, and Alistar and Leona will become bot meta, to counter the reworked Assassins.

Just because a champion isn't that valuable now, something might come that indirectly pushes them into the spotlight once more.

Well to be frank. Urgot is getting a rework. Quinn is still played by quinn mains in top lane where she is a solo lane terror. Kalista fell out of the meta. So now this leaves us aatrox. He needs to be looked at since right now I'm not sure where he stands.
