From my starting point of a mediocre midlander by bronze5 standards, how many normals would it take before I am at a gold level proficiency of azir, so I can climb to gold, and then do the same thing for the home stretch to diamond 1?
You need to learn more than just azir.
Learn champions power spikes and when you can should and shouldn't be aggressive
Learn CDs of big abilities (or core abilities of a champs damage source and cc source) Learn the and start saying CDs of flash heal exhaust ignite teleport etc
Learn how to properly build and build orders (gold efficient)
Learn to trade in lane without losing farm Be at 90cs @ 10 mins minimum
Learn to disengage
Learn how to play the map not jut the champion
Etc etc etc.
It all depends on your ability. When nightblue3 started out he was bronze 5 in his first seasons end then he practiced like a mad man and got to challenger the next season.
It's possible but not easy
Learn to depend on yourself and recognise your win conditions
