Riot Retconning Lore to Seperate from Gameplay?

Looking through all of the boards and seeing numerous GP complaints about him being disabled due to him being 'dead' in lore, I keep seeing people mentioning Riot retconning the lore so that it wouldn't interfere with gameplay.

What is an example of this? Because I'm really curious what Riot did that would deserve an entire retcon to fix?
