Xerath Vs. Vel'koz... who's better?

I want to get a very high poke low mobility & these two are the best at that. But the real question now is which one is better/should I get? I did do a little reasearch and I am leaning a little on Vel'kozes side on this one, but I want to see if anyone knows a little more about these champs and could tell me their opinions...Xerath Velkoz

Just noticed someone down voted your thread... not sure why this deserves a down vote so I up voted.

Vel'koz, IMO, who is the best immobile mage in the game.

You can hit from weird angles - and if you do manage to land your full combo, you will devastate people.

Even if you miss your ult initially, you can always swivel to do SOME damage, maybe even get a full combo of his passive off - if you whiff on Xerath, which is easy to do, well, that's just another cooldown wasted.

Vel'Koz also isn't super item dependent. He has high base damages, and that scaling true damage passive.

Immobile mages are very reliant on your team to not be doing crappy, but even then you can carry with Vel'Koz - you can turn entire fights around with a well placed knockup+w+ult combo, saving q for fleeing stragglers.

Then again, I am extremely biased at this point. I've played several hundred games of Vel'Koz the past few months.

Also, to the below poster, Vel'Koz is not reliant on Rylais, so if it gets removed this coming pre-season, he is not harmed in the least.

I own neither champ but from what I've seen, and in my opinion,Velkoz would be the better option forma team play stand point. That ultimate's true damage is nasty.

I think Vel'Koz it's better since he has really good combos and his passive is really powerful

Really depends on what you want. Xerath has better poke and range, as well as more burst with just basic abilities.

Vel'Koz has stronger teamfight and "outplay" with his Q angle

I personally think it comes down to execution.

If Vel'koz lands his entire combo, he destroys people. He's great with a wombo combo setup, and not many people are use to dodging the sideways poke.

I personally prefer Xerath. His Q has very little warning before it's dealing damage, and extends just beyond champions line of sight. His ultimate range is frankly ridiculous at level 16, letting you help teammates out even if you're no where near them. If you've got a Rylai's them both your Q and Ult can provide the slow needed for your team to engage/disengage. His EWQ combo is very bursty.
