who put together the matchmaker system?

So I am wondering who all worked on the mmr matchmaking system. Especially the ranked solo/duo matchmaking and the starting season boost and freelo.

Sorry if you have a legitimate reason for asking, but your post sounds like just about every other person who asks a question like this but is only interested in identifying a person to spam and harass inside Riot.

i want to have a discussion as to the reasons they went this path seeing as it is so flawed. It may work for the higher ranks in solo/duo but it creates so much improper placement in the lower ranks it causes an incredible amount of inconsistency. There are rather simple routes to go to help make ranked more accurate rather than giving everyone free lp and mmr at the start and letting it sort itself out eventually.

You can have a discussion, but there is no reason to ask for anyone's name. These forums are for players to discuss amongst themselves, and when Riot finds a topic they feel they can add to they chime in. They are not, however, designed for players to talk directly to Riot staff.

no players have the reasoning as to why they made the decisions they did. This is the only place to best talk to riot employees about subjects that are not commonly talked about. Considering asking someone on the art team or anyone else unrelated to the subject about this is worthless, it is reasonable to ask for those that worked on the system to get actual answers. why are you speaking on their behalf?

Actually, making a Support ticket is the most effective way to communicate with Riot. They've stated more than a few times that Support tickets are not only for "issues" or problems, but for any question you may wish to post to their team.

A more pressing question, in my mind, is why you seem to think it's unreasonable for a community discussion to occur on a community discussion board.

i dont think it is not worth it, but without someone who was a part of the team that worked on the system it is a bunch of what if's and guesses. I have made support tickets before but when it comes to matchmaking the support team are hush and merely direct you to an FAQ. I am not here to try and figure out the system or anything malicious. I simply want to know why they went with this implementation over better options, which there are many.

Y'know, I've seen plenty of people talk about how bad Matchmaking is, and about how there's so many better options. I have yet to see anyone actually describe an implementation that a) is actually better than the current system; b) isn't stupidly abusable; and c) doesn't completely change the goal of play.

What i really would like to see is a change to the beginning of the season bonus LP and MMR. these bonuses cause such an immense amount of inconsistency in the lower ranks its ridiculous. I have known players reach high silver and gold yet play no better than high bronze simply because of some good luck and the freebies from the beginning boost. That seems to me like cheating players that are matched with that player and the player itself.

The best way to change this in my opinion is to remove the free boost and replace it with increased rewards from winning streaks. If a player is better than the rank they are at they are more likely to have winning streaks while those who are correctly at their rank will have fewer. this would help improve the incredible amount of skill disparity found in the lower ranks. will there still be players who get lucky, sure. but there will be far less.

I have genuinely never heard of a "beginning of season LP/MMR bonus."

Unless you're referring to the way the system attempts to rapidly place players in their first bunch of games. Which... is really just the exact same changes that occur whenever a long-standing player wins or loses, simply more exaggerated.

It's the same basic concept that's been used in virtually every ladder-style system ever. The only really beneficial change I think I've heard of is extending placements to narrow the range more before issuing a placement.

those bonuses last much longer than most realize, they can last upwards of 50 to 100 games. while not as significant as the first 10 or so games but you will gain more lp than you will ever lose.

it all makes sense now lol
