[Event Ended!] PROJECT: Holy shit there's a lot going on, let's break this down

Aug 24th Update

While Patch 6.17 was launched, there was a problem deploying the "recipe" as it were to disenchant the old Project Content. We're looking to get this fixed ASAP, and hopefully will have it resolved by the end of the week.

As soon as I learn more I'll post it here!

Update!

The Project event has officially ended for all regions! In patch 6.17, we will be allow players to disenchant their left over Project Materials for orange essesnce.

Unfortunately, I don't know how much orange essence the materials will be worth just yet.

Hey everyone,

The PROJECT Event is here to usher in a new technological golden age! ...And maybe a few goodies that you can unlock in Hextech. It may seem kind of complicated at first, but it’s pretty straightforward once you get into it. Below are some of the more specific details and nuances of the event, but feel free to ask any questions you have in a comment!

Since so many Rioters asked me how the event works, I took one of them into a room and recorded a video explaining how the PROJECT event works. I wanted to share with everyone here!

#What you need to know:

  • There are 3 separate PROJECT Caches: Blue - Project Ashe, Green - Project Ekko, Red - Project Katarina. These are like Hextech Chests and can be purchased by IP (750) or RP (75) and give you the following:
    • An immediately unlocked Summoner Icon: Ekko Cache - Decrypter, Ashe Cache - EM Caster, Katarina Cache - Hyper Edge
    • A Project Ashe, Ekko, or Katarina First Strike Summoner Icon Blueprint
    • To permanently unlock this Summoner Icon, you will need 7 Project Cores (like keys or essence gained from PROJECT/Augment Caches). This will also unlock a special Loading Screen Border for the associated Project champion. It is NOT possible to purchase/unlock/craft these summoner icons outside of the Cache/blueprint. Keep in mind that to get the border you need to own both the First Strike Icon and the associated Project Skin before the event ends.
      • For example, if you own Project Ashe and craft the First Strike Ashe icon, you’ll get the Loading Screen border as well as long as this happens before the event ends on August 16th. It does not matter which happens first, you will unlock the border within 24 hours of owning both pieces of content. The summoner icon DOES NOT need to be used for the Loading Screen border to appear.
    • 1 Project Core (Material)
    • 1 Augment Cache Fragment (Material)
      • Combining 3 Augment Cache Fragments will create (unsurprisingly) an Augment Cache!

NOTE: You can only buy each Project Cache ONCE -- meaning, once you buy the blue cache, you cannot buy another blue cache again.

  • There is a separate Augment Cache that can only be either bought with RP (295) OR can be created by crafting 3 Augment Cache Shards together. This is a buffed up cache that gives you the following:
    • Standard Hextech Loot Chance - Such as a champion shard, skin shard, ward skin shard, etc
    • An additional guaranteed Champion Skin Shard
    • 2 Project Cores
    • A chance to earn a Augment cache fragment

NOTE: Unlike Project Caches, there is no limit to how many Augment Caches you can purchase

  • Disruption Cache - Gold. It can be purchased through IP (1500) or RP. Similar to the PROJECT Caches, it gives you:
  • A Disruption Summoner Icon that automatically unlocks once the cache is purchased
    • NOTE: This does not provide any special Loading Screen Border.
  • One Random old Project Skin Blueprint (either Yasuo, Yi, Zed, Fiora, Leona, Lucian). The randomness of each skin is weighted equally at a ~16.7% chance.
    • Since this is only a blueprint, you will need 11 Project Core materials to craft them into a Champion Skin shard. Once it is a shard, you can then unlock it as a permanent skin through normal essence.
  • 7 Project Cores (Material)
  • 2 Augment Cache Fragments

NOTE: You can purchase one and only one Disruption cache, similar to the Project Caches.

#FAQ:

  • The Project event will end at 23:59 PDT on August 16th for all regions.
  • If you own (purchased or crafted) PROJECT Yasuo before 23:59 PDT on August 16th, you will be given a special Loading Screen Border for this champion.
  • Can I get the new Project Skins in other chests? Such as Mystery Chests or Normal Hextech Loot chests?
  • Yes! These skins are considered normal skins, so they follow normal skin rules. They can be gifted, received through mystery skin/chests, and their skin shards can be gained through hextech crafting.
  • What happens to my unique Project Hextech Content after the event ends? (The project cores, blueprints, caches, etc)
  • Even after the event ends, your content will not disappear! You can still unlock/craft Project content and receive the content, but not the special Loading Screen border. You just will not be able to buy any new caches. Project content can also be broken down into essence if you don't have enough to craft something.
    • NOTE: It’s possible we may forcibly remove Project Materials (Cores, blueprints, etc) from your account in the future. If we do decide to remove this content, we’ll give everyone a heads up so you can craft everything you want to!
  • For the Merch Quest for the Project Hoodie, here are the specific content you'll need to have equiped while you win 3 Matchmade games (Matchmade Game -- any game mode where you enter an actual queue/matchmaking)
    • Ward Skins -- Optic Enhancer, Recon Drone
    • Summoner Icons - PROJECT, PROJECT Fiora, PROJECT Leona, PROJECT Lucian, PROJECT Yi, PROJECT Zed, PROJECT Ashe, PROJECT Ekko, PROJECT Katarina, EM Caster, Decrypter, Hyper Edge, Recon Project: Ashe
    • Champ Skins -- PROJECT Fiora, PROJECT Leona, PROJECT Lucian, PROJECT Yi, PROJECT Zed, PROJECT Yasuo, PROJECT Ashe, PROJECT Katarina, PROJECT Ekko

Alright, so, like everything hextech crafting related, this system seems needlessly complex and confusing. So please, correct me if I'm wrong because I'm genuinely uncertain and want to be clear exactly how this works.

The maximum amount you can get without spending RP is one of each character caches (Ashe/Ekko/Katarina), plus the Disruption Cache, which gives 5 Augment Cache fragments which allows you to get 1 Augment Cache and be one fragment short of a second one. From all those caches combined, you will get 12 Project Cores, and it takes 7 Project Cores to get a loading screen border for Ashe, Kat, or Ekko, or 11 Project Cores to get one of the previous Project skins, chosen at random. If you are lucky, you may get an additional Augment Cache Fragment in your one free Augment Cache, allowing you to get a second one. Beyond that, if you want anything else, you MUST spend RP, there is no other way to obtain any additional Project Cores, Augment Caches, or Augment Cache fragments by either playing games or spending IP, correct? RP becomes mandatory beyond that point to get anything else?

My god this is complicated. Why on earth does this system exist? To get more "freemium" money? The whole company needs to take another look at this godforsaken crafting system and reconsider things.

I miss the days of being able to just BUY a skin or icon if i wanted one. NOW I have to buy X funboxes, which give me 1.3 blarble-bloopp points plus an icon blueprint (not the icon! just the BLUEPRINT!!). If you want the ACTUAL icon, you have to buy Y funboxes to give you enough Blarble-bloopp points, which combined with, enough Orange Essence (but not BLUE essence!!) to unlock the icon! (skin sold separately (lol))

Who thought this was a good idea. It just seems like an obvious ploy for more money by trying to get people to buy funboxes, right out of a freemium mobile game. Even if this particular example is available for IP (i think???), this whole system, and the skins only available by using it, just seems insidious to me.

...And I still have no fucking idea how it works. I've read this and the support page literally 3 times each, and it still makes no goddam sense.

Oh baby, I'm really enjoying my whole +2 orange essence! This is the most essence I've ever gotten from anything! I can upgrade!....

Oh wait, +2 orange essence doesn't get me anything. I waited over a week for Riot to bend me over but they didn't even have the common courtesy for a reach-around.

EDIT: They didn't use lube either, no Disenchant All button. I'm going to having fun clicking each individual core and disenchanting it. [slayer-jinx-catface]

I can't see the new ashe ult. It's almost an invisible flying stun. I'm colorblind, sure, but not at an extreme level and that arrow is the first time I have big trouble seeing a spell.

Wow. I am a postgrad lawyer. I guess I should get a PHD so I can figure out how the f** I can craft these things. Damn riot. What will be next? Get a doper hextec box, play for the diabule key, buy a whooper for the whooper yummy core, go to taco bell, ask for the riot especial for the taco catalist, buy diablo 2, rush the game until you get the horadic cube, join all together.

If you put the diabule key first you will get a horizon border, if you eat the burguer during the craft you will get the BK watermark.

Could you please draw it?

Hello to everyone ! I wish to clarify something about the Project borders stuff

First of all, I wish to congratulate and say BIG "thank you!" to dArtagnan about the nice and informative article about the PROJECT: DISRUPTION event. Believe me, I've read from couple of sources about the event and this one is the best of all. Actually there was something that it isn't very clear and can lead to wrong suggestions and/or conclusions, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY !!! If you want to have the FIRST STRIKE BORDER for 1 or all 3 new skins (Ashe, Ekko, Katarina), you have to buy the skin/s before the event ends "23:59 PDT on August 16th for all regions". You don't need to buy the skin/s first, just to have them along with the crafted icon/s, before the time of the event runs out. So, if you thought (like me) about crafting the icons/borders and later in the time (after the event ends !) getting the skins, well I will disappoint you, YOU WONT GET THE BORDER/S, if you didn't had the skins while the event was alive. Still, if you like the icon/s feel free to get them, they are pretty nice :) And last, I didn't want to sound like a d*ck, just wanted to clarify something which can be found in the KB Article, actually I'm pretty happy with the event.

Does Riot allow swearing now? I always thought the wasn't allowed. Then after watching the Round Table video (can't believe that language was used by Riot), followed by Kled and now even Reds posting them in the title. Seems weird you can't say GG Ez, but you can swear at each other...wonder why people get confused when typing to one another.

I'm shocked someone at Riot thought this system would be a good idea, and then the Big Wigs actually put their stamp of approval on this crap...We have to jump through extra hoops just to earn the privilege to spend MORE money to earn something that we just got automatically the last time. A better use of your time would be to explain to us WHY this change was made. Was it just to con us into buying more PROJECT swag? Or to ham-fist people into using the hextech system more to justify its existence?

I wouldn't complain if the 1500 IP box was purchasable multiple times during the PROJECT event, but since you can only buy it once, this whole system is retarded and overly complex for no reason other then to make it SEEM cool and mysterious but it really just comes off condescending and that Riot really has no idea what it's doing.

Well, it's a good thing that I only want the PROJECT Ashe skin, her first strike border & her summoner icons. I can get the summoner icons later & focus on the timed content for now.

So, I just need to buy the Ashe Cache (with IP) & 3 Augment Cache to get 7 PROJECT cores. 1 PROJECT ore from the Ashe Cache & 2 from each Augment Cache. Unlock the First Strike icon & border & boom, I'm done with PROJECT: Get Dat Ashe & settled my PROJECT: Hype for the year. Of course, I got the skin before all this.

What do I do with extra first strike blueprints and core fragments? I unlocked all 3 first strike borders of Ashe, Ekko, and Katarina. But I had 2 blueprints of each. I also have 11 extra core fragments. (I got 2 blueprints of each by buying the 3 caches from the store. Then I bought the bundle that had all 3 in it. So I got 2 copies of them)

Hey dude,

So I unlocked a Project YI Shard from this event. Do I need to create the skin NOW to get his border? I dont really have the dust atm.

Also, consider doing these loading screen borders more in the future. For example, if you charged 750RP for a project loading border you could put on ANY CHAMP ON ANY SKIN, I think that many people would hop on that and buy it.

This is a really cool product / customization. You (ie riot) should look into investigating if releasing multiple loading screen borders for free use is a good idea. Like a Project border for 1k RP I could use for any champ, or a Pool Party or Arcade loading screen borders.

I'm saying we dont have to couple the borders with the skins ie project border only with project skins. I think this customization would be really cool for any skin (ie a project skin with an arcade border, etc).

Please pass it off to the team that made this.

Also just to sum up my opinions on this whole event:

-Firstly thank you very much for giving us a 'free' project 'skin'. I didnt expect you guys to be so generous. Arnt you guys chasing a billion dollars in revenue? Why you giving out free loot?

-I dislike all the fkn microtransactions. You're giving league a really bad image as a chinese micro-transaction based game. A few years ago there were only skins to buy with real money. This was acceptable. Now there are all sorts of baubles like chests, keys, caches, chromas, and other bullshit. For me, its not fun dealing with these things as it really cheapens the game and it looks like it was created by Chinese devs hungry for money. (but thats true in a sense about league, isnt it?) Honestly it looks like Riot is really greedy and wants to charge for EVERYTHING. Next youre gonna charge for runes and masteries, the rate this is going.

-Shop sucked for this ! Holy crap what happened to the store. When I clicked to buy the crate for 750IP it only said "ICON" Like what? You need to add more descriptions to the store so we know exactly what the fuck we're buying. It should say:

Included: 1 Player Icon 1 Crate (to be opened in hextech crafting). -1 blue -1 augment cache

-Hextech Crafting is a complicated mess. Legit, its way too complicated and unnecessary. I think theres a good product hidden underneath all the bells and whistles and bullshit materials you guys have in this system. Remove the garbage and I think you'll be left with a crafting system that is enjoyed by all, and doesn't look like a bloated cash grab.

-Charging for borders Look I know you guys are really hungry to make a billion this year. Its really obvious in the amount of bullshit mtx you guys have come up with this year. But charging for something that should be included in the base skin? Thats really disappointing. Didnt expect this sort of ridiculous cash grabbing from you guys. But now I know what to expect.

So overall: great event, but your management really needs to dial back the greedy/cash hungry mentality they have this year. Hopefully once you guys make a bill this year, the chinese stakeholders will dial down the pressure. The MTX is really not good for any game (IMO).

I just bought a ton of Augmented Chests, and I opened one and received Debonair Vi, and a Draaaven Icon Shard. Why didn't I receive this additional 975 skin shard you speak of that is guaranteed?

An additional guaranteed Champion Skin Shard (worth 975 RP or higher)

EDIT: Just opened another one and did not get a Shard worth 975 RP or higher. EDIT again: This has happened an additional 4 times.
