Thank you Riot for the recent diverse champions, but there is still much work to be done.
Hello Riot and League community.
I never create discussions. I felt compelled to write this post in order to thank Riot for creating amazing champions recently. I want to especially give props for the creation of Illaoi and Taliyah. None of them are hypersexualized and they are not white. Also, shout out to Jhin (who I will forever think he is gender queer, and I love him). However, there is still much work to be done.
I know Riot has said in the past that they will not just create a Champion to fit a stereotype, which I completely agree. But you all have to admit that, in the past, you all have created very bad champions that could have turned out to be better (Miss fortune could have been an older women captain/mercenary, filled with scars and such, but Riot decided to make her young and beautiful). That's where the problem lies. In order to continue to be relevant in the future, you all will have to work harder to create champions that truly represents an individual. Eventually players will start noticing the whitewashing of many characters (Prime example is Sivir; isn't she supposed to be of African descent yet she looks white).
Something that will always bother me is Annie. Why did she have to be a white child? Why couldn't she be of color? Sorry I just get really frustrated to see this inherent institutionalized racism that plagues games. I believe in Riot. I believe Riot will be an innovator in diversity.
Please do not stop the ball from rolling. Riot's design team is going in a good direction in terms of champion designs. But for now, as Kayle likes to say, "Into the Fray" (aka going to play a match).
Best,
Your dearest loving supporter Roger
