Why am I always against gold and higher

I'm consistently going against gold and higher players even though I'm not even ranked. Am I just unlucky or is Riot just out to curb stomp all fun in the game?

It has a lot do with the MMR of the other people on your team. Or it should... if matchmaking doesn't screw up.
