What if Sona was cursed, so that every record of Sona's name were expunged, and everyone who knew it forgot?

For the purpose of the tortu-AHEM- experiment, the curse actively prevents Sona from communicating her name in any way, shape, or form other than speech, and can only be broken if the afflicted says their name aloud.

Sure, she'd continue to exist, but she'd be nameless, unknown. For a time, she'd be nobody, but then she'd eventually be named, become somebody again.

But she would not be Sona.
