How does Gnar's lore fit current lore concepts?

In the past, a lot of lore was reworked because the stories told were very isolated and didn't have a lot of room for interaction with other champions. Trundle as an example was a cursed troll in the league to help his people, and that was deemed insufficient. When I look at Gnar however I see the same issues. He was frozen in ice and thawed out presumably thousands of years later. He has no relation to any species or characters, including other yordles, who he likely wouldn't even equate as his own species.

I fail to see how Gnar or his lore create story opportunities, beyond perhaps heimerdinger wanting to research him.

So I want to know what was the thought process behind Gnar's lore, and why he seems so cut off from every other champion.

He's no more cut off from the rest of the cast than say Zac, Rammus or Urgot. He may not be a modern Yordle but then again neither is Lulu and she gets by just fine.

He already has a connection to Rengar and some connection to Freljord (Lissandra/Anivia??). Anivia says she dreams of eras past, it is very possible that she and Gnar meet at some point, resulting in the bird being able to shed some light. Zaun would probably be really interested in him given their fascination with bio-weapons, I mean come on now, the kid has a hulk gene. That's like Zaun's wet dream for super soldier serum.
