What is the point of telling someone "then don't play"

If someone is having a bad time for whatever reason and they say something in chat why do people reply with "then don't play." So you are giving permission for them to AFK or did you want them to use their magic crystal ball and see that their next game is not going to be enjoyable? They had no way of knowing their next game was going to be unfun.
