Why do people do this?

Just some background on me, I was silver 5 last season, placed into bronze 5, and have had an extremely high win rate and am currently in bronze 2 and climbing. But I could be climbing a lot faster if it weren't for one thing, blind optimism. As high school athlete, after practice and homework daily I can get maybe 2 to 3 games a day if im lucky. Most of the time it is just 1. So we are 25 minutes into a game, down 2 inhibs and being more than doubled in kills. I am not here to rage and say I had bad teammates, Im not going to win every game and I understand that, but after the enemy team takes their third dragon and pick off two of us who were trying to steal it then head to baron, yet my surrender vote fails 1/4 followed up by "Jayce why are you so negative man we can still win this!" There was no coming back from this game and yet people still decide to sit there and just wait to lose? Is that really fun for people? So i patiently sat there for another 10-15 minutes fending off super minions and dieing, just waiting for them to end it. Is there a reason behind this blind optimism? Because I dont know about you but I would much rather just cut my losses and surrender a game like that, and have time for another one that I have a chance at winning.

I've posted about this elsewhere. It's a product of our culture and how we approach teaching today. The system doesn't teach failure and how to recognize when you just can't do something, so we have people who will throw themselves endlessly at the wall long after a wise man advises them to stop trying.

And the sad thing is that there is little you can do except be dragged along until the other team grants you the mercy of a defeat. I've been stuck in this situation myself and I agree its beyond frustrating, but it will happen simply because the people you are with lack the ability to recognize that the cause is lost. I'm not saying it's their fault. They are that way because they have been taught to be that way. And there is little you can do.

I'm guessing your experience as a high school athlete negates a lot of that. You are in a competitive sport where a winner is selected with each game/match, and are used to being able to recognize when a game is "over" even if there is still time on the clock. Just remember that many of the people playing LoL don't have that experience and ability.

There is always a chance to comeback. There are hundreds of factors that go in to winning or losing a game. The thing that bothers me about people like you is that if you really are in an un-winnable game that you stand 0 chance of coming back, it will be over really fast and you get your wish of not wasting time. If the game does drag on you can win.

Am I the only one that actually enjoys the challenge of being behind? I've won 1000 games where I was or the team was fed, who cares, I outplayed or got lucky against my lane and stomped the rest of the game being 3 times as powerful as everyone else. The games I remember and tell my friends about are the games we win a 4v5 with an epic come back.
