Why am I matched with mastery 5 players when I am barely mastery 2 with my champ?

ex. (real example) I am barely mastery 2 with riven and I get matched with a mastery 5 and lose the shit out of my lane.

Mastery isnt the same as Rank. Mastery just means hes either good with that champ, or he plays him too dang much. For example, I have barelly played Amumu and i already have 5 masteries with him, but i have Played Quinn a lot and im only 4. It doesnt really mean anything.
