whats the point of playing tanks
unless your playing a super high damage tank everything can jsut shred through you with low cost tank killer items :|

For CC and initiation. Though, I suppose a lot of dps champions can also do that these days. Tanks still have a place, albeit a small one that shrinks by the day. I think the better question is, what's the point of building tank items on tanks? Damage is still far superior to defense, so unless you build a fair amount of damage it's very hard to carry with a tank champion. The exceptions are if they get damage for building defense and/or you're not playing with complete idiots that don't follow up on your plays (or don't know how to counter build).
90% of the time it's better to just pick a bruiser or an overloaded dps champion like Ekko and build tanky stuff. Far easier to carry that way. Most of the pure tank items aren't even that good and are outclassed by defense/damage hybrid items designed for bruisers.
