PSA: Just because someone is _____ Rank doesn't mean they're ____ Rank at every role.

If someone got to Diamond by jungling primarily it actually is quite probable that they could be low-high Plat (even gold) at the other roles so don't expect a Diamond level of game play across the board. A Plat 5 ADC Could be better at ADC than a Diamond 5 Top laner is at ADC simply because he would know his champion and mechanics (kiting, positioning) better than the D5 top laner. Every role offers different mechanics and particular things you learn only through experience for that role so don't expect anyone to transition from playing support to top laner and being equally as good.

Reason I am saying this is because I have seen people criticize others for playing like a (insert insult here) player in an off role in a normal when the entire point they're there is to try something new. Every one starts somewhere and even challenger players often perform poorly in off roles so take it easy on your fellow team mate. <3

I am personally Plat, and when I play with my friends, they call me boosted cause they expect me to carry at any role, even when I play a champ for my first time against a mastery 7 gold player.

They piss me off, so I remember to only use my mains in customs when playing against them, and now I dont have too many reflexions :3

I played with a Challenger and his girlfriend once (someone associated with C9 I believe) he was a top main, but he was playing ADC while his GF was playing support. The enemy team camped him the whole game and called him "boosted" for losing lane despite the fact that, you know, he was getting 4-manned constantly and 5-manned when enemy TP was up. Though he did manage to get a stylish quadra kill when they dived him under turret, the best part being the Ashe that flamed him all game was recalling in the tri-bush behind the turret and it was warded, so he just W's her in one epic maneuver for the kill (He was Jhin by the way.)

I'm a Platinum 5 Support Main but if you force me to go into ADC role, i'm Silver ...... I suck at that role. I'm Gold in Jungle & Top, Gold / Silver in Mid depending on my matchup but my true strength is in Supporting. I especially enjoy going Poppy Support because putting champions in a role they're usually not played in can throw people off on how to fight them in lane.

Member Team Builder, where matchmaking would adjust if you were playing a role you never play?

tldr all support mains are boosted

Miku Append12/2/2016, 2:55:55 PM2 votes

I can agree with this very much. I play support at a Gold level, but not so much in the case of top or mid. If you put me in the jungle or ADC, it's just better to have an afk tbh... A lot of this comes from knowledge of mechanics and the game itself, such as I know what to do in any given situation as Nami or Sona but as Ahri or Syndra ? Pfft you kidding me. I'm not sure whether to roam just yet or not.

I see, that explains why I am Challenger level with Yorick but only a Bronze player at all roles...

but seriously, yep thats why Auto-fill sucks.

So what you're saying is everybody should play all roles to the point that they don't have off-roles. I agree as a "completion point", but of course having to buy the champs, runes, and pages, it's probably best to build your way into one/two roles at a time.

I'm pretty solid at mid and top while being able to rock the supports, but I'm horrible at botlane (I did well once since I cheesed out people with GP) and jungle. I don't know why considering I was practically an ADC and jungle main back when I played Smite.

I'm actually quite proud of beating a Gold 1 (almost plat!) from mid, but I get roflstomped in top by some shit bronze 5 player if I get counterpicked (since I play too many champs)

[slayer-pantheon-thumbs] excellent post

This is why I say I'm just bad. My rank doesn't have anything to do with it and I've beaten low plats/high golds in norms. What kind of Support am I? A decent one. Ahri, I am the best (jk'ing, pretty sure I'm on the low end).

It all comes down to how well do I know X champion in Y matchup. In those cases, I could probably tell you which should win in a 1v1 situation assuming there are no outside factors apart from runes/masteries.

I shit you not, there are support mains that play non-support like bronze/silver, but are actually plat/diamond.

Or just ask me, my mechanical skill to compete with even silver ADC mains are at most subpar. So uh... how do I melee again?

dominusx12/2/2016, 10:30:30 AM1 votes

Tell that to the retards who think i can beat a challenger midlaner in flex que when i have like 25mid games this year.

Sadly, most people can't see and think further than what their eyes show them. So they see you playing bad, they conclude that you are bad all the time, every time.

Yea I have finally started appreciating ranks for what they are. They have some meaning, but not as much as some players think mainly for the reason you described.

Like one of my buddies hit plat this season playing Janna Blitzcrank support. The rank is deserved, he is plat level support with those champions. This buddy also took like a year break from league. So although he a plat 4-5 support player... he is like... probably mid silver at every other role hahaha. I been playing 3v3 with him a lot and he changes champs a lot and just feeds hard. We have fun but he definitely still rusty at playing other champs and roles. Damn good at hitting them blitz pulls though :P.

Same for me though. LIke I reached gold playing all roles but top this season. I can compete at a mid/low gold level at most roles but if I get stuck top you might as well look at my rank as bronze 5.

But even then being low gold over silver/bronze isn't that much different (at least mechanically) so I still lose a lot in silver/bronze games anyways.

You can tell when people are playing their main champs/roles compared to those who aren't. Ranks mean hardly anything when you have someone playing their main role/champ over someone playing a role they hardly know and trying a new champ.

True I played with my friends for a past month, about 200 games, and only in like 20 of them i was on my main role. Mid/supp. I usually let them pick first... and that makes me stuck in jungle/top/adc most of the time. While i dont really know this roles, i've been able to carry with something simple like Nasus, or Shaco, but not as ADC.

ABlueQuaker12/2/2016, 5:29:31 PM1 votes

I'm proud of that fact that I'm pretty consistent across all roles, but the champion pools vary. If you catch me trying to play Zed or Yasuo I'm going to look like I should be in Silver and I wouldn't blame you. But calling me boosted when I have a 65-75% win rate on Zac and Sejuani from a combined total of ~100 games is pretty insulting.

EDIT: This isn't to say that there aren't plenty of actual boosted (or Dynamic Q boosted) players out there. You see some people trying to gank into 3 waves worth of minion aggro or last hitting enemy champions when there were like 10 other ways to contribute to the kill for assist gold without dealing any damage whatsoever.

Lucian Waifu12/2/2016, 6:54:25 PM1 votes

This is very true. My friends who are in bronze and silver expect me to carry every game no matter what lane I am just because I am Platinum. Although if a bronze 5 claims that he is master tier and is bronze 5 on that account he is playing only because he messes around, that person is a liar.
