Placements
Hello to the players that find this message. This post is likely just going to float down into the abyss of the posts that are never discovered, but I hope that somebody finds my words (and comments on them).
I wanted to take the time to write about something that's been on my mind, which I think has been a really frustrating part of ranked. I've played league for over two years now, and I fell in love with ranked as soon as I hit level 30. I started at Bronze IV in season 3, and by the end of season 4, I was able to successfully make it up to gold III as a support main (Solo Queue, I rarely duo'd). This was (personally) my biggest achievement in League of Legends, and I was really proud of it. However, when the season ended and placements came along, I was a bit confused when I placed in Silver II.
Since then, I've had a really frustrating ranked experience. Silver is different from gold for two main reasons, which I think are the large amount of trolls and AFKers, and the carelessness. I play ranked because I like playing league seriously, and hopefully people reading this can relate to when you have a player who ends up in your game and does nothing but attempt to be an obnoxious influence. Another difference would potentially be the fact that it's so difficult to support in silver games compared to gold because players may not know how to carry themselves in a game, or do know but can't as often compared to a more experienced player.
But the other thing that really upsets me about the placements and remaining in silver is that it takes the progress and journey that I (and likely many other players) embarked on through most of season 3 and all of season 4 and throws it in the trash. And THAT is what is most infuriating and upsetting in all of this. It's so difficult to have fun in my ranked position (support) in silver compared to when I was in gold because many people don't know what to do, or just don't want to do it. And as unfortunate as it is, it's much harder to actually carry as a support than it is with a midlaner or adc. For this reason, I've tried to main a jungler or a midlaner to carry myself through silver. It works sometimes, but at the end of the day I find myself making no progress with my ranked profile. It just sucks.
I hope that placements are altered next season so that people will be able to start closer to where they once ended, because dropping down from Gold III to Silver II is too much of a setback. Adding to this, I know that I've been a negative player (never intentionally fed or trolled though), but there should be a higher ban rate for players that break the summoners code, but ONLY FROM RANKED GAMES. Like a chat restriction, but for ranked games (you have to complete a set amount of games to gain access to ranked).
I'm going to pray that some Riot Games employee will be kind enough to respond to this, even if it's insulting my opinions on the matter. For a long time I thought that I shouldn't post something like this, but at the moment and for a few weeks now, I figured I might at least try to express my concern. Thank you for reading, and I hope that you are enjoying your ranked games (unlike myself), as well as League of Legends as a whole.
