Mom's, Dad's and League

My mother just called me to hang some clothes 9 minutes into my ranked match. Then I had to open the gate for my dad 3 minutes later.

League is just a game so I never get upset about being interrupted and I try really hard to play when there's nothing to do but all the same life happens in random ways. I tried to explain to my mom about how me leaving in the middle of a match that can't be paused, can be really upsetting to 4 or even 9 people. So if possible if she could wait until the match is over for me to do the thing she asked. Of course league is still a game and games are just things, so of course if she wants it done now I will leave my ranked match but all the same it can be a little frustrating losing a match based solely because you afk'd.

So I suggest that you too try to respectfully explain to your parents how league works, how it can't be paused and why it's not very kind for you to afk during a match and how it affects others negatively. =) But always remember that it's just a game and you parents are top priority.

The best way to deal with those kinds of parents is explaining it like this:

Yes, you're right, it is a game. However, you are in a game with other people. Those people will be upset, like you mentioned, but then explain further that you made a commitment to those people. They are your team to work with for the whole game, just like you might be placed in a team for a group project at school or even when you have a job. You can't ditch a commitment. It isn't right, you are affecting more people than just yourselves, and it's selfish to assume their needs and wants aren't as important as yours. You made a promise, and it's important to keep it. In the end, it is still all a game, however, so if they feel a need to punish you for any form of disrespect as a result of a game, go ahead and do it, but please wait until that match is over.

Just play when you know you will be uninterrupted. Or maybe set aside hour long blocks where you inform your parents, "Hey, I'm going to be starting a game soon, do you need me to do anything first?" You will appear more responsible and they will be more receptive to you playing if your other stuff is done.

heres what i do. i ask my parents if they will need me for anything anytime soon. If they say no, then i get on league and play for a while. Even if they have something really quick they need me to do, if im in game i will say to them "when i asked you if i was going to be needed, you said no. Im going to finish my game, and then ill help with whatever you needed. I already committed to helping my team win, im sorry but its going to have to wait". Something like that. now with that gate thing ya, dont make him wait on that, but like with the clothes is a good time to use what i said. Good Luck

LoL IS just a game, but your parents need to start respecting that you're currently busy.

Once my mother understood what a video game was and that I couldn't pause it, I explained that I was perfectly willing to help her in half an hour when my game was done, and that was that. Also be sure to offer help BEFORE starting a game.

hanging up clothes can wait until the match is over. you could at least go to your parents, and ask if they want you to do anything, before you want to have an hour of uninterrupted time to play a match.

"id like to play my game for an hour. is there anything you want me to do, before i start?"

is not a hard question.
