I don't feel immersed

I want to feel immersed in a game, you know like when you or i were kids we felt so involved so much so part of the world. Lately i don't feel that way i don't feel that any game should feel like your daily work week instead it should be the best part of your day and i'm worried video games are slowly becoming "unfun". My friends and i have been struggling to find games that are just fun to play together and the more i don't find one the more i feel like I've wasted so much of my life on a hobby that's crap. Sorry for being a downer i just wanted to know if anyone else felt the same.
